I am a practising Catholic whose faith has shaped my life. I served as an altar server for ten years, which gave me a deep appreciation of the symbolism and reverence of the Mass. That formation instilled discipline and a strong sense of responsibility within liturgical settings. At Winchester College, I was Roman Catholic Head Chapel Prefect, supporting the organisation of worship and acting as a link between pupils and chaplaincy. This role strengthened my confidence in coordinating services and encouraging participation among peers. I currently volunteer at St Peter and the Winchester Martyrs, supporting liturgical preparation and producing Mass sheets for major celebrations. These roles have given me practical experience in organising prayerful, accessible worship for the wider community. Studying Anthropology at UCL has strengthened my understanding of religious diversity and the importance of dialogue. Through involvement in public engagement work and the Departmental Anti Racisms Committee, I have learned to listen carefully and represent different perspectives with care. I believe interfaith engagement should be rooted in clarity about Catholic teaching while encouraging respectful discussion. I would prioritise well-prepared liturgies, greater student participation in readings and music, and opportunities for thoughtful interfaith events. I am motivated by service and by a commitment to strengthening both worship and dialogue within the Catholic Society.
My first year at UCL has been amazing, but what has made it truly special has been attending the various worship events at the Catholic society. A big goal for me before joining university was growing closer to God, and the truly warm and inviting environment here has allowed me to confidently grow in my faith through consistently attending the rosary and Lectio Divina each week. My experience here is a large part of why I am applying. I wish to make other students, especially new students trying to find their place in a new environment, feel as welcome as I did to come and pray as part of this incredible community. I will keep up the current weekly worship events that take place, and be open to other events that could further deepen our sense of togetherness. I truly believe that I am the right person to continue the legacy at this amazing society.
