Thura Linn Htet

Our BurSoc may be small compared to many other societies at UCL, but that’s exactly what makes us such a close-knit community. So, it’s crucial that we maximise the value of every pound or kyat we receive and allocate our budget in ways that genuinely benefit our members. As someone who has been surviving the quantitative rigour of UCL Economics so far, I understand how important it is to work carefully with data and numbers—because even a tiny mistake can lead to unnecessary chaos. As a treasurer, my core values will be transparency and accountability. I’m committed to keeping our financial records clear and accessible, so members always know how their contributions are being used. Whether it’s organising cultural celebrations like Thingyan or Thadingyut, supporting welfare initiatives such as earthquake relief fundraising, or funding collaborative events with other societies, I believe responsible financial management helps us do more, not less. Last but not least, Burmese Society, under my term as a treasurer, shouldn’t simply just remain stable, which in Economics we call stagnation (meaning no progress, just standing still), but should continue to grow both financially and institutionally over time.

Being Burmese at UCL means carrying a culture that deserves to be seen, celebrated, and proudly represented — and that is exactly what I intend to do.
I am not running simply to hold a title. I am running because I believe the UCL Burmese Society has untapped potential, and I want to be the person who unlocks it. Having served as a Student Representative in high school, I know what it takes to stand up for a community, amplify voices that often go unheard, and turn ideas into action. My internship as a Healthcare Assistant further sharpened my ability to stay composed, organised, and dependable when it matters most.
As President, I will bring bold leadership and a clear vision — building a society that every Burmese student at UCL is proud to be part of. As Treasurer, I will handle our finances with precision and transparency, ensuring every penny works towards creating real value for our members. As Event Organiser, I will craft experiences that go beyond ordinary gatherings — events that genuinely celebrate our heritage, spark connections, and leave lasting memories.
