Saadhya Natarajan

I’m standing to be Social Media Secretary of the BJJ society as I believe that through social media, we can bring the society the recognition it deserves while also representing the community that has been created and promoting the inclusivity of the society.

After training BJJ for two years back home, I have seen how empowering and powerful the sport can be, and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience that. Although I have not been able to attend many sessions this year, the ones I did attend had the warmest and most welcoming atmosphere. As a first year and a woman, I was initially intimidated by the prospect of joining a combat sport at university, but my experience during the sessions was extremely positive. I think social media can help show others the supportive and inclusive nature of the society, and that BJJ is not as scary and complicated as it seems!

I have experience managing the social media pages for my secondary school’s TEDxYouth event as well as volunteering for an NGO. I believe that with the skills I learned through these experiences, I can create a consistent, creative, and positive social media presence for the society, bringing it the recognition it deserves and helping people from all backgrounds feel represented and safe to try a combat sport for the first time.
