Hello hello! I would love to be your safety and welfare officer next year. Over my few years at boat club I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone in it and I’ve seen how much of a support the club can be for people. I would love to be a part of this support system and as a consistent member of the club I hope to be a friendly face for people to approach!
Although I haven’t held a RUMSBC committee position before, I have been social sec and band director in MDs over the last two years, so I have a good understanding of how committees run and I know the organisation it requires to run smoothly.
This past year, I’ve really enjoyed learning the new skill of coxing and getting to know the rules of the river. The opportunity to build on this knowledge further and help teach it to others is something I really want to do. Particularly I would like to build off the lovely foundations Eti has created this year when it comes to delivering the safety talk for the wider club and coxes. I found it incredibly useful as a cox being guided through the reasoning of the rules of the river and this is something I want to continue. I will also be introducing the bald cap as mandatory safety head gear for coxes too xx
Hey all,
I have really enjoyed this role over the past year, helping to improve safety and education across the club. It has been a real privilege working alongside this year’s captains, and I am keen to use my experience positively in 2026/27 to help bring our new committee members up to speed on all aspects of river safety!
I am very open to suggestions on how I might improve next year, and would be very grateful for one final opportunity to contribute to the running of RUMSBC after four fantastic years on committee :)
With love,
Etienne
