Boat Club (RUMS): Media & Communications Officer

I love RUMSBC and I think the rest of the world deserves to see how great it is. Although I’ve only been part of the club for a couple of months, it’s been the most fun, chaotic and iconic months of my life, and our social media should reflect those vibes. Future members, friends, family, alumni who still stalk our page, and most importantly other RUMS clubs need to see what they’re missing.

I should have the job because in sixth form I founded and ran a society, managing all the social media, marketing, communications and event promotion (Translation: I’m an absolute beast on Canva). You’ve seen my Instagram and RUMSBC nails (if u haven't, they look good), I clearly am committed to aesthetics and I promise the RUMSBC socials will look just as delectable. I’m at every social anyway, so who better to run the social media and document the chaos.

If elected, I would focus on:

• Consistency: the Instagram and TikTok can’t disappear for months
• Reviving the Tiktok: I already have a folder with 100+ ideas
• 2026 Promo Video: Dylan's 2024 one was fire and it should help with novice recruitment
• DITL and Race Day Content: to highlight the best part of the season
• Showing Socials on the Socials: We are not just about ergathons and races, people wanna see parties and pints.

Vote for me so my 80+ hours of weekly screen time can be put to good use and I’ll make RUMSBC’s socials the envy of every RUMS club, the highlight of everyone’s feed, and the reason other UHBCs cry themselves to sleep.

During the course of my second year in this club, I would love to play a more hands-on role. Having just completed the 24-hour-ergathon, I have witnessed firsthand how powerful and efficient a competent social media backing is at attracting sponsors and publicising the club’s events. 

From fundraising to crew announcements, as social media secretary, I will ensure that everyone contributing to RUMSBC is showcased and celebrated. 

One thing I’ve really appreciated this year is the Google Drive link shared after our amazing socials. Building on James’ fantastic work, I plan to organise these into a larger, centralised drive so that photos are easier for everyone in the club to find and enjoy. 

Furthermore, I will focus on making short form videos that highlight the friendliness and accessibility of our club, as our social media presence is often the first interaction new members have with us. I will also systematically curate posts on Instagram to bring attention to our sporting wins, as well as our mini social activities and engagements.

I am excited to work alongside our fundraisers, inclusivity and diversity reps, captains and social secretaries to promote every aspect of our amazing club to potential members! 💙💛

Dear all, 

I would love to have the opportunity to be your Media and Communications Officer next year to be able to give back to a club that has given me so much.

I think I would be a very strong fit for the role because of my prior relevant experience creating content, organising communications and building engagement within a community. At school, I was the president of the Pupils' Committee (@esffm) and produced clear engaging posts on social media and the school's website on everything from cycle-to-school initiatives and anti-bullying events to bake sale announcements. This helped me develop clear, consistent and accessible communication style to effectively connect students to our events.  

That role also helped me develop the practical skills necessary for the role. I am well versed in Canva have lots of experience with video editing, for instance, working on the social media promotion for larger student events with up to 2000 people. 

Most importantly, I am a hardworking and consistent member of the club and would put real effort into the role. It would be a pleasure to be able to showcase the people and atmosphere that make RUMSBC what it is. I am keen to develop the RUMSBC TikTok with some fire videos and edits.
