Hello friends it's me again..Miranda!
I am sure you've seen me all around, and I am once again running for BMLSoc out of pure love and passion for bioethics and the people who have so kindly made up this society.
As Outreach officer this year, I have one main goal, which is to help with handover, and re-establish lost connections over the years. Whether it be previous speakers who we really enjoyed having over, or charities that have reached out over the years, or even law firms who have a strong interest in student bodies. I hope to help manage all existing and new connections to help YOU as members of UCL BMLSoc to increase exposure and help you learn more about career choices and current policymaking around bioethics and medical law.
Please vote for me! And I hope to share my last year with the wonderful people I've met within this BMLSoc!
Hi everyone! My name is Naomi, and I’m a first-year Biological Sciences student.
I’m running for Outreach Officer because the outreach that the Bioethics & Medical Law Society has done this academic year has already had a meaningful impact on me. Last term, I attended my first talk featuring a clinical negligence solicitor who eloquently introduced me to the ethical complexities of medical inquests, coroner’s courts, and her line of work. In all honesty, I initially went out of pure curiosity and a general interest in bioethics, but the talk was far more influential than I expected. In fact, it sparked my interest in pursuing medical law - a path I hadn’t even previously considered as being open to me.
This experience made me realise how powerful thoughtfully curated outreach can be. As Outreach Officer, I hope to help this society create more of these moments for others by:
- Building strong relationships with medical ethics academics, legal practitioners, and healthcare professionals so we can continue hosting thought-provoking speakers who challenge and inspire us.
- Reaching out to other societies to organise collaborations that broaden our reach and introduce more students to bioethics and medical law.
- Actively asking members what they want from outreach, so our events reflect the range of interests within this society.
I would treasure the opportunity to help create the kind of events that can shape someone’s direction, just as this society has shaped mine.
