Sonia Marwaha

Hello everyone,

My name is Sonia and I am standing to be your vice-president. After two years of loyalty and commitment to UCL Bhangra Society while holding no official leadership roles, I feel that I am best suited to this position due to my experience and dedication. Bhangra Soc means everything to me and ensuring it is a sustainable, inclusive and welcoming society is my top priority.

My commitment to the society is best demonstrated by the fact that I rejected the opportunity to represent UCL at TBS, a prestigious competition, in order to create and co-captain a second Rangeela Bhangra team on short notice for the first time ever, showing my ability to lead and tackle emergency situations. This was to deal with unfair treatment and ensure that Bhangra remains accessible. S/'[uccessfully performing at multiple events (including the British Museum!) and helping people realise their potentials will be one of my proudest achievements.

My priorities:

  • A healthy, inclusive dance environment where welfare is prioritised
  • Unacceptable and unfair treatment of other dancers will not be tolerated
  • Raising awareness of the society within the UCL community with outreach events and collaboration
  • Ensuring that there are opportunities within the society for students who have paid for membership

I am passionate about Bhangra Soc and its members, and will work closely and efficiently with the committee to continue the society’s growing success. With this in mind, I hope you vote for me as your VP!
