This year was my first time trying Bhangra, and I fell in love with it straight away. The energy of the dance and the vibrance of the music is truly addictive, and the joy I feel every time I step into class is unmatched. It hasn’t always been easy (boy can Bhangra can leave you exhausted!) but it has taught me a lot about my own resilience and willpower. What’s made this experience even more meaningful, though, is the people. The Bhangra community is incredibly welcoming and generous with their time and skill; they are always helping newcomers improve and making sure everyone feels included. It truly feels like a space where anyone, regardless of their starting skill level, can come together and grow.
Through that, I’ve made wonderful friendships and found a community that means a lot to me. That’s exactly why I’d love to stand as Social Sec: to help nurture that same sense of connection. If elected, I’d love to organise inclusive, low-pressure socials where everyone feels comfortable joining in. My goal would always be to create spaces where anyone who loves Bhangra feels welcome to connect and feel part of the community.
At UCL I’ve also been involved in several academic committees, where I’ve gained experience organising events and working within a team, all skills that will translate well to being Social Sec!!
Bhangra has brought me so much happiness this year, and I’d love the chance to help create that same welcoming and spirited environment next year.
