Election post
My name is Xuanrun Wang, though most teammates know me as Jerry. I am a currently second-year Engineering & Architectural Design student at The Bartlett. Since first year, I have consistently attended Social Basketball at least twice a week and built strong friendships across different backgrounds. Basketball is a key part of my university life.
Through regular participation and conversations with players and last year’s Social Secretary, I have identified areas for improvement.
Firstly, many sessions exceed 20 players. While this shows strong interest, it often means paying members struggle to get enough game time, and non-members sometimes occupy court time. If elected, I will ensure I am consistently present to manage rotations fairly, prioritise members, and organise structured queues so everyone gets reasonable playtime.
Secondly, weekend competitions often lose attendance after a few weeks. I believe many players join Social Basketball not only for fun but to showcase their ability and potentially progress to Teams 1–4. However, exposure for Social players is limited.
I propose increasing visibility through simple initiatives such as session photography, Instagram highlights, and weekly recognitions like “Play of the Week” or “MVP”. This would improve engagement and create a clearer pathway between Social and competitive teams.
My goal is to make Social Basketball fair, organised, and visible for everyone.
