Hi, I’m Sadiyah, a Psychology with Education student!
I would love to be the Bangla Society’s welfare officer because I understand how university can be a very exciting part of our lives, but also an overwhelming and at times isolating one too. For example, it can be difficult being far from family or balancing cultural expectations with academics. As a welfare officer, I want to make sure that no member in our society ever feels like they are experiencing these challenges alone.
I am a UCL Access and Widening Participation Student Ambassador and Careers Extra Champion, and I work with students from underrepresented backgrounds. These roles have taught me about the diverse student body at UCL and of the unique challenges that each student may be facing. From learning how different each person’s university journey is, I have also learned how important it is to have someone to talk to. As the Bangla Society’s welfare officer, you can turn to me and I will listen but also act upon your individual needs.
I believe that feeling like you’re part of a community is important for student wellbeing. Therefore, I hope to create an environment where every single member, regardless of their gender or background, feels valued. Most importantly, I want to get to know all of you. I want to hear what matters to you and understand what you need more of. Together, we can celebrate our culture and form new friendships.
Vote for me and let’s make the most of our university experience together!
