Austria has dominated a significant part of my passion for architecture as a student of the Bartlett; the likes of the Vienna Secessionists and Hundertwasser have completely transformed how I theorise the built environment. But the cultural connection with Austria runs deeper in my family, with both of my parents constantly forging this Austrian passion of mine with their fond experience with Austrian music and art. As your Social Secretary of the Austrian Society, I am confident in my ability to expand the scope of our society's events towards a more interdisciplinary nature that engages with all of its members. My veteran experience of promoting society participation and cross-society relations is strongly evident in my current role as the Events Director of the Japan Society, in which I work with my fellow officers in designing events at least once every week for a membership of almost 600 people. Within both the Japan Society and the Bartlett, I have also been founding and managing more loosely-organised events aimed at more serious cultural appreciation, including regular academic workshops, gallery visits and student-led journals. I aim to expand these practices into the Austrian Society by engaging with the ample opportunities provided by the London Austrian scene, as well as students passionate about understanding Austria like me. On the other hand, I also wish to continue promoting our social events, such as the pub socials and collaboration with other societies.
