As the previous Social Secretary, I am standing again because I absolutely loved being part of the committee and assisting in organising events. The things I enjoyed the most about being Social Secretary this years was all the pub socials we did, and am looking forward to doing more of those next year! As someone who has lived outside of Australia and New Zealand for the past 14 years, it has been so nice to be able to meet fellow Aussies and Kiwis and find a feeling of belonging in being so far from home. In addition, I had an incredible time running the stand at the Welcome Fair and chatting to so many people (even making it onto the UCL Student Union Tiktok!), so would love to be able to take part in that again. In the future, I would love to organise more social events and maybe even do a collaboration with the Baking Society, as I am always sharing Aussie/Kiwi baked goods with friends, so to be able to share that with the wider university would be incredible. I hope that you'll vote for me again and that I am able to continue being the Social Secretary for the ANZO society.

Aliya Yang

Hi everyone,

I'm Aliya and I'm from Sydney! So so keen to run for leadership of ANZO this year and to continue to contribute to creating a welcoming and social club for all the Aussie and Kiwi students at UCL. I know I'll have very big shoes to fill as everyone in the current team has been so incredible in organising all the socials and really making new students like myself feel so at home here in London, but I'm so ready to get more involved this year by helping with the running of the society!

I really want to help share the love I have for home - both Sydney and Canberra (I absolutely loved my year at the ANU) - as well as my love of Tim-Tams!

I’m standing for Social Secretary as a proud Kiwi who enjoys meeting new people and is keen in looking to help establish, and develop a welcoming community within ANZO Society!

ANZO Society has already been a great way to meet people from home and I’d love be a part of helping the society continue to grow. If on committee, I’d be keen to see that more opportunities to connect happen throughout the year including pub nights, sports watch parties, and picnics. I’d also love to help foster more cross-society and university collaborations with LSE and KCL to help expand the ANZO community across London universities.

Ultimately, I’m especially keen on taking feedback and suggestions on board, and working with the rest of committee so there’s something for everyone!

Charlotte Peach

Hi, I'm Charlotte and I'm from Brisbane, Australia! I'd like to be the ANZO social secretary because I have so so many ideas for socials and events we can do next year (I'll write a few below). Since moving to London, there are obviously big things that I miss about Australia, but I've also just been surprised by the little things - little cultural differences - and I'd like to hold lots of events, big and small, to remind us of home and bring Aus/NZ/Oceania to London. My ideas include:
- coffee meetups at different Australian/Kiwi-owned cafes around London
- sunrise run club (ending with vegemite toast and milo, perhaps?); there's a brilliant Aussie run club at Hyde Park we could join, too!
- frequent touch football and cricket games, viewing parties for Aus/NZ/Oceania teams (NRL, soccer, Ashes, rugby, etc.)
- many many group picnics, filled with sausage on bread, party pies, fairy bread, lamingtons, afghan biscuits, and chicken salt chips
- day trip to a sandy beach (it won't be as good as our beaches, but it's something)
- Triple J Top 100 party night
