I would like to run for the role of ACS Events Officer because I want to be involved in creating memorable events that bring our community together to celebrate African and Caribbean culture. One of the early ACS events this year helped me find my community on campus, so I would love to contribute and give back to ACS by planning and creating even better events for future members.

I already have experience planning large events. In Year 13, I was involved in organising our school prom, which required a lot of coordination between different groups of people to ensure the event ran smoothly. I also helped organise a Culture Day at my school, which celebrated our different cultures through clothing, food and a talent show. This experience showed me how meaningful well-prepared events can be in bringing people together to share their backgrounds and create a sense of community.

If elected, I would aim to organise a variety of events that appeal to different interests within ACS, from social events like creating families within ACS to help members connect, to cultural events that celebrate our heritage and allow the wider university community to engage with African and Caribbean cultures. Please vote for me as one of your next Events Officers, as I would love to be involved in creating exciting events for ACS next year that members genuinely enjoy and remember!!

The events held during my first term at UCL made me realise the impact frequent and consistent events can have on your well-being and life at university. I am standing for this role so I can continue to foster strong community engagement within this society and help create meaningful and memorable experiences during students’ time at UCL.

In this role I would focus on balancing weekly recreational ‘Afterschool club’ events aimed at spaces to drop in and meet friends in an unstructured informal setting, alongside more structured events I enjoyed this year such as Meet and Eats, Debate Nights and socials. Attending Arts & Crafts Fridays as a part of the Panafrik preparation has been a great chance to connect with people weekly and I would love to launch this again next year on a bigger scale. I would also work alongside other committee members to organise conferences and help manage the Panafrik showcase.

Here are a list of events i would like to hold if i am elected:

  • An ‘afterschool club’.
  • More pub and quiz socials.
  • Karaoke Nights.
  • Independence day events.
  • And more events held at black owned businesses.

I am passionate about using community events to help students find their footing when starting university and make life-long friends through their university journey. I would be grateful for the opportunity to join the 26/27 ACS committee.
