Marcus Phasouliotis

Hey everyone! My name is Marcus and I am running for welfare officer and sports secretary. As someone from a mixed background, ABACUS has given a multitude of opportunities for me to connect with all sides of my heritage. The balance of cultures and student life has made my ABACUS experience very positive. However, with this positivity comes an expectation that this is carried forward. I want to give back as part of Abacomm.

Sports have always been a large part of my life. Lending me life-long friendships and teamwork skills, I understand the importance of sport for university communities. As a rugby player and rower for over 7 years, sport has always been a highlight for me and I am excited to bring much to ABACUS.

Initiatives

London-wide badminton matches, charity runs, chess and Mahjong tournaments are just some of the initiatives I aim to bring. I want to strengthen our internal community and build UCL’s ABACUS presence across London.

As a Londoner, born and raised, I understand the importance of having a sense of belonging within the metropolis landscape. I want to continue ABACUS’ legacy as the welcoming environment I have experienced it to be. I want to provide a local hand of support as a Londoner and Abacus veteran to first years new to the city landscape.

ABACUS has to be one of the best spaces in university for socializing and making friends - despite being a 1st year, it really makes me feel like I’ve been here for a long time thanks to all the memories I made and amazing people I met through it. Sports and our members’ wellbeing are integral parts in the community, so I promise to take my experience from being events coordinator in VietSoc UCL and put 110% effort into performing my duties wholeheartedly if you do vote for me :)

Sports have been a huge part of my life ever since I turned 6, having played a variety and being on my high school varsity basketball team myself. I believe everyone deserves to experience sports in ABACUS, since it not only benefits your health but also helps you take a break from busy uni schedules and have so much fun!

My role within ABACUS would be to ensure sports be accessible to all of us, and organise exciting sports events collaborating with other universities that would bring you unforgettable memories. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on sports events you want to see/attend, and I’ll try my best to accommodate it!

I understand the impact of inclusivity and safety in organising events or just in the community space, so you have my word that I will make sure that everyone’s only worry is having a good time. Also, as the ‘DTF’ (dedicated therapist friend), I believe I’m a great listener, so feel free to text me if you have any questions or concerns! ^^ (insta: jay.doanhung)

Jasmine Ho

Hi everyone! I'm Jasmine, a 1st year Communications student running for Sports Secretary & Welfare Officer. Having grown up sheltered in Hong Kong, ABACUS served as my launchpad to London life and became the place where I found my first group of friends.

But why sports?

From past Volleyball Team Captain to three years as House Captain organising sports events, I witnessed how sport unites a team while acquiring skills in organisation, team building, and leadership. As an NBA fan, I also understand the sense of belonging that sport creates, embracing the communal values ABACUS champions.

As Sports Sec, I aim to expand our sporting calendar to build unity and school pride, attracting wider participation. My initiatives include:

  • Inter-uni ABACUS League – A year-long points system across multiple sports, creating healthy competition between universities and reigniting passion for ABACUS sports

  • Sports for Wellness – Internal activities like group runs, pilates/ yoga socials, and e-sports sessions scheduled during low-motivation periods to support student welfare

  • Female-Inclusive Sports – More female-friendly options outside dodgeball and football, ensuring everyone feels welcome to participate

  • Multichannel Sports Promotion – Using platforms beyond Instagram to reach a sports-interested audience and boost participation

I'm excited to apply my external communication skills to this role, liaising with other universities to keep our members connected and passionate about ABACUS sports.
