I’m standing for the VP role because ABACUS represents the kind of community that originally inspired me to come to UCL, which is a group of ambitious students who are curious, driven, and excited to build connections beyond the classroom. Since joining UCL, I’ve been involved in several projects that reflect this mindset. I co-founded a social enterprise that transforms medical waste into bag organisers to support kidney treatment funding, and I’ve also helped organise large-scale student events in Bangkok #partysparties. Through these experiences, I’ve learned how powerful communities can be in turning ideas into real outcomes. The right network of people can turn a small idea into something impactful.
ABACUS has the potential to be exactly that kind of platform at UCL. I want to help strengthen the community by creating more opportunities for members to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another, whether through speaker events, partnerships, or hands-on projects. Ultimately, I’m standing because I want to contribute to building a community where students feel inspired to explore ideas, take risks, and support each other’s ambitions. I believe ABACUS can be a place where students don’t just talk about ideas, but actually build them together.
Hi everyone! I’m Yanisa, current First-Year-Rep, running to be your vice-president. Coming from Hong Kong, ABACUS has given me comfort in my transition of moving abroad by providing a space to find my closest group of friends. ABACUS events hold many of my core memories, so I really wish to do the same for others and help you all live the most out of your uni days.
As vice president, I wish to not only bring support to the internal ABACUS committee, but also build a more tight-knit community for all members. My key initiatives include:
- Socialising beyond just dining and clubbing: Organising new events, eg. a lively dim sum making class with DJ and Chinese alcohol; My other ideas include hosting (freshers/ UCL-exclusive) pres before London ABACUS clubbing nights, silent disco in the natural history museum, clash royale/ brawl stars tournaments and more!
- Strengthening team culture through sports: Promoting attendance for sports matches, encouraging chants, and creating a spirited match-day atmosphere with UCL merch, banners, and face paint!
- Lower ticket prices: Make event tickets more affordable for all, by securing sponsorships and negotiating bundle deals wherever possible.
As the FYR, I have had the opportunity to be the contact-person and host EOY pres at Simmons Monument, gaining first-hand experience on handling internal logistics in planning an ABACUS event. My experience, strong passion and ability to unite makes me the ideal candidate to help ABACUS move
