The power poetry has to connect us with others and express ideas and emotions that may otherwise feel impossible to describe has always been what has drawn me to it. My degree may be in biology, but a need to tell stories and spill ink continues to be what guides all my decisions.

Attending the fortnightly poetry sessions has given me a space to keep nurturing my craft and get inspired by talented poets. The environment created by the Chair of Poetry is always welcoming and I will strive to follow in my predecessor's footsteps.

The idea of having to choose between studying a STEM subject or a humanities is an illusion. For me, poetry and art in general is central to how I interact with science and communicate about it with others. Writer's Society is special because it brings together students from so many different degrees, backgrounds, and writing experiences. It's exactly the kind of place where false dichotomies and boundaries can be challenged.

I am standing for the Chair of Poetry because I have experienced how empowering sharing poetry and hearing feedback from others can be. I want the chance to help organise a space where that can happen, and to help anyone and everyone foster their creativity on and off campus.

Thank you for reading, I hope to win your vote <3
