Mrudula Paluri

Hi, I’m Mrudula Paluri, a second-year Chemical Engineering student, and I’m excited to be running for President of UCLWES.

As the current Events Manager, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact UCLWES has in supporting and empowering women in engineering. Over the past year, I have gained a deep understanding of the society’s vital role in fostering connections, providing career opportunities, and creating a supportive community.

As President, I want to build on this foundation by continuing to organize high-quality career events featuring speakers and recruiters from top companies, giving our members valuable networking opportunities. I am also passionate about making UCLWES an inclusive space where every member feels welcomed and supported, regardless of their background. My experience in organizing successful events has equipped me with strong leadership, teamwork, and organisational skills. Having worked closely with members, guests, and the committee, I understand what it takes to lead UCLWES effectively and drive it forward.

I would love the opportunity to serve as your next President and continue making UCLWES an empowering community. I hope you consider voting for me!

Seerat Sekhon

I am a PhD student innovating early-care diagnostics for heart failure patients at UCL's Department of Electrical Engineering, Institute for Materials Discovery and Royal Free Medical School. Working in multidisciplinary environments has reinforced my belief in the power of representation, collaboration, and mentorship. As Marie Curie said, “The way of progress was neither swift nor easy.” The challenges women face in engineering today highlight the need for continued advocacy and action.

The Women's Engineering Society has built a strong foundation, but I believe we can expand its impact by :
1. Bridging the gap between undergraduates, postgraduates, and women in industry through a mentor-mentee framework.
2. Strengthening networks via collaborative events with women researchers across G5 universities
3. Securing funding to increase female student participation in FemTech events and innovation challenges
4. Launching a podcast series to highlight women in STEM across UCL; facilitating workshops & panel discussions
5. Coordinating industry and academic site visits for improved internship placements
6. Enhancing visibility with society merchandise and organizing social retreats to celebrate science and girlhood
7. Collaborating with UCL's ThisGirlCan campaign

UCLWES aims to strengthen professional growth, inclusivity, and empowerment for women in engineering at UCL. I would therefore be honored to serve as your President and work alongside you to elevate our society to new heights.

Carla Prados Bodega

Hi! I am Carla, a Biomedical Engineering student, and I’m incredibly excited to run for President of UCLWES.  Being part of this society has been very empowering and rewarding and I’m eager to take on a role in shaping its future.

As a First-Year Representative in UCLES, I gained first-hand experience in committee operations, event planning, and student engagement. Working closely with the team, I saw how impactful societies can be on the student experience. Now, I want to build on the foundations of UCLWES to make it even better for all members.

To achieve this goal, I plan to:

  • Introduce Sponsorship as a role in UCLWES focused on generating money to run even more events and create collaborations with real-world companies, increasing the networking opportunities of all members.
  • Establish a mentorship program: connecting professionals with students to provide guidance, industry insights, and personal support.
  • Streamline communication within the society by implementing a member feedback system, ensuring that students have a say in the events, workshops, and opportunities UCLWES offers.
  • Improve inter-society collaboration by working with other engineering and STEM societies and women's societies to expand networking opportunities, host interdisciplinary events, and create cross-departmental projects.

I look forward to contributing to UCLWES and working with the committee to make the society the best it can be.
