Election post

Surf Club provides an incredibly welcoming and engaging community for students at UCL and at the center of that community are the Surf Trips. The trips provide an opportunity to escape London, reconnect with nature, and do some great surfing with some great people.
However, the high cost is a barrier to entry for many members and the number one obstacle I would address as Trip Secretary. The Surf Trips can cost over £300 before flights. This prohibitive cost is why me and several friends chose to organise our own Surf trips independent of the Club. Over the last reading week we went to Tagazhout in Morocco for a week. It cost £200 including flights and food.
We accomplished this by putting a lot of time and effort into finding good deals for every element of the trip and specifically looking at which locations are affordable at which dates. I will bring this experience and methodology to planning the Surf Trips next year so more of our community can enjoy them.
The other pillar of my platform is empowering members to organise smaller trips during weekends and Bank holidays. If there’s interest in a swell building of Cornwall for example, I will help coordinate a group to drive down and sort out the logistics of renting a car and finding accommodation.
To conclude, if you want more trips, great vibes, and excellent waves for less money, vote Alex!
