Fun fact: London is exactly 10,845.29 kilometers from Singapore.
If elected as Events Director, my vision for SingSoc event-organisation include:
1. Building a strong foundation for friendships by focusing on major SingSoc events (e.g. Orientation, Spring Ball, New Year Dinner):
- Structuring a clear event timeline, and working with other committees to secure sponsorships, and time publicity effectively
- Expanding the planning committee to involve more people and their ideas
2. Sustaining Long-Term Connections
- Empower sub-committees and OGLs with the platform and resources to foster ongoing connections within the groups they head
Management-wise, here’s what I bring to the table:
1. Experience in Leadership:
- House Captain & Student Council EXCO: Helped plan and execute my school’s Bicentennial Celebration (7,000+ audience), as well as school-wide (2,400+ people) events like Orientation, Open House, and Batch Night, equipping me with a thoroughness paramount to event-planning, an awareness of the bigger picture, the creativity to think outside the box, and the stamina to see things through from start to finish
2. Principles I stand by:
- Accountability and adaptability
- The creativity and courage to talk calculated risks and test novel ideas
- Empowerment of committee members
- Decisiveness to make the tough calls when necessary
Although I can't shorten the geographical distance from Singapore, I hope to help create a community where you can find 'home' right here at UCL. Thank you :)

Hi, I'm Vera, and I would like to be your next Events director!
I am a cheerful and empathetic person who loves to form close relationships with others and always tries to motivate those around me! I value open and effective communication, which I hope to promote more of between committee and society members (e.g. through feedback forms, getting suggestions for events) to improve everyone's society experience, and I believe will help in working effectively with other committee members. My previous experience as a school prefect has provided me with the skills needed for this role, including knowing the ins and outs of planning school events, being diligent, organised and detail-oriented.
If elected, I would like to produce events that widens the reach of SingSoc members - both internally and externally. Internally, I would like to promote more opportunities for those who have struggled to bond with others in this society to do so. A lot of people describe SingSoc as their second family, and I hope to produce events and promote inclusivity that helps everyone find this sense of belonging. Externally, I would like to produce collaborative events with other community societies in an attempt to encourage members to step outside the comfort zones created by our own community. Being in London allows us to take advantage of its diversity and seek interactions with people from different backgrounds, and I hope to use my role to create such opportunities.
