I am running for the role of welfare officer of UCL Punjabi Society, because I am passionate about making this society a more supporting and inclusive space, where all of the members feel welcomed, valued and empowered. Punjabi culture has deep rooted values of unity, compassion and support for each other, and as welfare officer, I would aim to bring those values into the society. As a student who understands how important mental-well-being is and recognizes the challenges of being in university, I want to work with the rest of the committee to build a stronger sense of community, and implement events and initiatives to help members during hardships e.g. stress-relieving and relaxing events leading up to exams, games nights to help members integrate, signposting students to helpful resources. As a medical student I have lots of experience communicating with a diverse range of people, especially when they are vulnerable, so I would be able to help members with any well-being/academic issues they have, but also just be a familiar face/support if anybody needs. Having worked with large teams previously, I am familiar with helping maintain peace within the committee and ensuring decision making is fair and representative of what the society and its members want. By standing as a welfare officer, my goal is to foster a community where members personal and academic well-being is also a priority, and that everyone feels they have someone to turn to.

My goal is to create a Punjabi Society where every member feels valued, heard, and supported. I pride myself on being approachable and impartial - I will actively listen to your concerns and ensure no voice goes unheard, ensuring committee decisions reflect our shared cultural values and members’ needs.
