Jane Nikulina

Hello! My name is Jane, I'm a second year medical student and I would love to be your Welfare officer next year!

This society is very unique, providing a safe non-judgemental space for its members to improve their skills, no matter how much experience they have had. As someone new to public speaking, I felt supported in the sessions, but sometimes we all need a bit of extra support to thrive and keep challenging ourselves to improve. Sometimes, some of us may have a bigger need for a helping hand.

Welfare roles in societies often feel invisible, but I believe they play a vital role in driving positive change in the community and require time and effort from the respective officers to do so. As a current Medical Society (RUMS) welfare representative, I’ve gained the skills necessary to make welfare more present, accessible, and impactful—and I’m eager to bring these efforts to our community.

As a Welfare officer, I'll be dedicated to being the person any member can reach out to. No matter how big or small your concerns are, I will always be available to listen and support you. I am committed to addressing welfare issues head-on and fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, included, and empowered.

Your well-being matters, and I’m committed to making a real difference. With your support, we can build a vibrant and nurturing environment where every member of our society thrives.

See you around!

Osman Jabbie

Hi Everyone,
I’m Osman Jabbie, a first-year Social Sciences student, and I’m running for Welfare Officer. Being part of the Public Speaking Society has been one of the highlights of my university experience, and I want to help create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all members. University can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, and I want to ensure that everyone feels heard, valued, and supported.
If elected, I will commit to:

Promoting Inclusivity – Making sure every member, regardless of background or experience, feels comfortable participating in our events and initiatives.

Wellbeing Support and Resources – Helping students access welfare resources and fostering open conversations about student life.

Community Building – Organising casual socials to strengthen connections and create a sense of belonging, whether you’re new to the society or a returning member.

Why Me?
I’m someone who genuinely enjoys bringing people together and making sure no one feels left out. During my gap year, I worked in property management, where I learned how to listen, communicate effectively, and help people resolve problems. I’ve also volunteered at a care home, supporting residents with daily activities and encouraging social interaction, which reinforced the importance of creating a safe and supportive community.
Thank you for reading my manifesto. I’d love the opportunity to contribute, so vote for Osman as your next Welfare Officer!

Sasha Besedovska

Hey everyone!

I’m Sasha, and I’m running to be your Welfare Officer for the Public Speaking Society! Public speaking is empowering, but it can also feel daunting. I want to ensure everyone in our society feels comfortable, supported, and confident as they grow their skills.

About me:

  • Experienced in Public Speaking & Moderation – I’ve moderated and simultaneously translated high-profile events, balancing quick thinking, clear communication, and audience engagement under pressure. I know the challenges of speaking in front of a crowd—and how to overcome them.
  • Committed to Wellbeing – I understand the nerves and self-doubt public speaking brings, and I want to help others feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to find their voice.
  • Passionate About Inclusion – I’ll work to make sure our events are accessible, welcoming, and stress-free for all members, whether you're a beginner or an experienced speaker.

If elected, I will:

  • Continue with weekly interactive workshops, that the current committee introduced – practical, engaging, and fun sessions to build confidence. This is exactly how I found the society myself, and I’m grateful to the current committee for being so welcoming! <3
  • Safe & encouraging environment – a space where everyone, regardless of experience, feels comfortable speaking and improving
  • Inter-Society collabs & guest speakers - so many exciting opportunities ahead!!

Vote Sasha for your Welfare officer - because your voice matters
