Hi!
My name is Oli Smith, and as your Chamber Choir Manager I will work hard to make sure that you get the best musical experience possible. I joined MusicSoc 2 years ago and have been looking forward to and loving Choral Concerts ever since. I spent last year enjoying everything the chamber choir has to offer, from the brilliant pieces, to the ever-popular mid-rehearsal biscuit breaks, to the absolutely lovely people I got to meet and work with each term!
During the year I will always be available to hear any concerns you may have whether that is general suggestions, requests for pieces or even the structure of the rehearsal. I’ve always felt very welcomed and listened to by the managers we’ve had throughout my time with the society (and all the choirs under it), and I promise to do the same for you.
Let’s keep the music strong, the biscuits plenty, and the choir thriving!

Being in chamber choir has been one of the highlights of my first year and I would love to be your manager next year!
Singing is such an important part of my life and I've sang in lots of choirs in Edinburgh and London where I've met so many lovely people! In secondary school I ran a student singing group, as well as having experience working in youth choirs, so I understand the work required to manage an ensemble and have experience in organising concerts, music, and people!
If I was elected, I would love to help organising our termly concerts, as well as continuing connections with venues to do evensongs and I'd like to organise a couple of trips to other venues like cathedrals during the year. I'm also keen to give singers more voice and influence in choosing repertoire for concerts to make it even more enjoyable. I love the social side of chamber choir and I'm keen to boost the team spirit by organising more casual socials (i.e pastation and pub) as well as our usual end of term ones.
Who am I and what do I actually do in Music Soc?
HI! I’m Sohan, I am a 1st year med student, and this year I have been singing bass in Chamber Choir and Symphony Chorus.
As Chamber Choir’s designated favourite “fresher” and favourite “postgrad”, I have gotten stuck right into CC this year, and I’m hoping to take CC to the next level as manager next year
My EXPERIENCE
As a vocalist and instrumentalist, I have a lot of experience leading ensembles, either directly as the organiser, or indirectly as a senior musician. (“You’ve been a focal point within the ensemble with an unassuming yet clear leadership.” – reference from RODS).
I have the organisational skills to deal with all of the admin required that comes along with the role, as well as the communication and interpersonal skills to deal with any issues that need resolving along the way.
WHAT I WANT TO DO:
- More concerts, in even more prestigious venues
- EVENSONGS!
- Charity events
- Introduce workshops/organised guest conductors so that the choir can learn to sing even better as a unit
- SOCIALS. MANY, MANY SOCIALS.
- Joint concerts with other auditioned choirs from UCL (and hopefully other uni’s)
Finally, (unlike certain individuals this year), I WILL NEVER FORGET BISCUITS.
