Tom Burridge

Hello, my name is Tom and I am running to be your Head of Academic Events for next year. I wish to bring a wealth of opportunities and talks with professors and industry & workshops and drop in sessions to members of ADM, making ADM a tool to support students with their mathematical journey.  In sixth-form I organised the first club for competition maths and pushed for the school to introduce it at earlier ages, which successfully lead to secondry school students regularly take the intermediate and junior maths challenges. This gave me the confidence to help organise maths events and study sessions at Imperial during the year I spent there.

As a proud member of ADM, I have always found the talks presented ADM to be a source of inspiration and knowledge. I will not only continue this legacy, but also expand ADM's focus into four key areas:

  • Reaching out to as many different Universities as possible for speakers for as wide a range of mathematics as possible.
  • Increasing talks by postgraduates and PHD students at UCL on current research.
  • Increasing talks by well known maths personalities. People like Hannah Fry and Matt Parker (I know the Tom Rocks Maths talk was greatly enjoyed).
  • Having roughly half the talks done by women in mathematics, and increasing the number by the LGBTQ+ community.

Outside of talks I would aim to continue and increase participation in the popular drop-in study sessions, and attempt to get more free food!

Thank you for reading.
