Hannah Tang

Hey, I’m Hannah – a first year studying Social Sciences with Data Science. I’m running for Vice President because I want to ensure Malaysians at UCL feel supported.

Why should you vote for me?

  • Experience – As a Student Rep and Head of Human Relations, I know how to advocate for student welfare and create a strong support system.
  • Passion – Throughout the RD program, it never felt like a job, but a passion. Similarly, I’ll be committed to this role.

What will I do?

  1. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Family System Reboot – For family chats that are a little “dead”, I’ll revive them with fun biweekly/monthly activities around London tailored to your interests.
  2. 📁Welfare hub – A one-stop Padlet/Google Drive with useful resources catered to all year groups: student discounts, landlords to avoid, good halal food spots, safety tips – crowdsourced by and for Malaysians.
  3. 🗣️“Sayang Survey” – A rolling, anonymous feedback form so your concerns/requests never get lost. I’ll check it weekly and push important issues to the BoD.
  4. 🍽️ Jom Makan! – More restaurant and grocery store deals near Bloomsbury!

You deserve a VP who will go above and beyond to ensure the good welfare of the Malaysian community. Read my manifesto here.

Heidi Lai Yin Shuen

Sharing Malaysian culture is not about showcasing well established heritage, but to welcome with open arms, providing a home away from home to anyone and everyone.

As Vice President, I am determined to enrich the Malaysian Society’s efforts in bringing authentic Malaysian culture to UCL – to ultimately, celebrate diversity in the face of adversity. I strive to uphold the society’s reputable standards while facilitating its achievement of greater heights, elevating it as a platform for leadership opportunities and cross-cultural experiences.

My visions consist of nourishing strong bonds between members through improving the family system to provide a structured and vibrant program. I aspire to expand the Jom Makan community while championing cultural awareness to ensure that diversity remains at the heart of our society.

With relevant experience, I believe that I am suited to the role and eager to grow further. As the Marketing Director of MBIOS, I plan to leverage connections with Malaysian universities to enhance outreach to incoming students. As Treasurer of the Student Union, I handled budgets and event logistics. Volunteering with Malaysian Nature Society and animal shelters cultivated my interpersonal skills and passion for empowerment.

Be it in food or song, the Malaysian Society effectively fosters unity. I am driven to reinforce these values and provide for the community and serve as the Vice President and Welfare Officer you deserve.

I am standing for Vice-President because I bring a wealth of experience, a passion for community building, and a commitment to enhancing student life. My roles as Events Director of Battle of the Balls and Organising Chairperson of the Asian Food Festival have honed my leadership and organizational skills, essential for managing large-scale events. As Treasurer of the Sunway Squash Club, I developed financial acumen, crucial for effective budget management.
