Kai Xuan Cheng

I believe that everyone running for this position is passionate about managing finances to benefit every member of our society. But why me? Why should you choose me as your next treasurer?

The two key skills for this role are numerical ability and proficiency in Excel. As a BSc Mathematics student, I can confidently say that I am strong with numbers. As for Excel, I worked in a company that relied heavily on it, giving me hands-on experience that sets me apart from other candidates.

Beyond technical skills, I consider myself a meticulous and well-organised person, which will help ensure that all incomes and expenses are recorded systematically and accurately. Of course, no one is perfect, mistakes can happen, but I will do my best to minimise errors in all financial records. I am also responsible, manage my time well, and being completely honest - hardly procrastinate (because let’s face it, claiming never to procrastinate is just a lie). When it comes to handling reimbursements, I will ensure you get your money back as quickly as possible. While the student union process may be beyond our control, I will do my part to expedite the process wherever possible.

If elected as treasurer, my main goal is to encourage participation in our events. Reducing charges is one of the best ways, and to achieve this, I will focus on minimising unnecessary expenses while working closely with our Corporate Relations Director to secure more sponsorships from generous Malaysian enterprises.

Jizhe Tan

As MSOC Treasurer, I promise to lower event prices for members by optimizing our budget efficiency. I plan to work hands-on with the events manager and RD teams to find areas for cost-saving without sacrificing event quality. I also plan to collaborate with our corporate relations officer to increase corporate sponsorships and expand the society budget - allowing for greater events to be organized. My most important change will be the implementation of a budget benchmark, where I would analyze historical financial documentation to create a streamlined record that can act as guidance whenever planning new event budgets. I believe that my experiences which include organising chairperson for two previous RD events (Paint & Sip Night, Conversations to Connections), alongside my aptitude for quantitative analysis and spreadsheet organisation make me a strong candidate for the role. My creativity and critical thinking skills would aid in the problem solving of the society's financial problems and my strong collaborative personality would allow me hash out any internal or external budget-related conflicts. I appreciate your consideration and hope I have won your vote for MSOC treasurer.

Kayden Owee

Hi everyone! I am Kayden, a 1st year Biochemical Engineering Student!

I am applying to serve my Malaysian community at UCL as the Treasurer. I hope to play a part in bringing our talented and diverse community together, fostering unity among fellow Malaysians abroad, creating strong support networks and a sense of belonging. Proudly Malaysian, I would also like to take the opportunity to showcase our amazing culture, food and heritage to everyone!

My key goals are:

  • More FUN events that unite us
    • Work closely with Events Director to allocate more budget for more get-together events!
    • More food fairs - everyone enjoys while profits can add to MSoc funds AND showcase our culture!
  • More AFFORDABLE events/ member benefits
    • Work with the Corporate Relations Director to secure a larger budget for member benefits, enabling us to offer more events at affordable prices. (Musical tickets, durian, festive dinners, trips anyone?!)
  • Promoting transparency in the allocation and management of funds
    • Ensure all members can see how resources are used to benefit the community.

With my previous leadership experience as Head Girl, Interact Club President and Treasurer, I have developed organisational and financial management skills, along with a strong sense of responsibility. My interactions with other Malaysians during my time as MSoc Representative Director and in MNight Publicity and Finance have also been great inspirations to me. I promise to serve our Malaysian community to the best of my ability.

Alysa Caroline Marcellus

I am standing for the position of Treasurer of UCL's Malaysian Society not only because of my skills and past experiences that I believe will benefit my undertaking of the role, but more importantly, because of my passion for my culture and Malaysian identity. Being part of the Malaysian Society Committee for 2025/26, I hope to be involved in fruitful discussions about events and opportunities that boost the sense of community spirit amongst us UCL Malaysians, and allow for the development of friendships that remind us of home. In the role of Treasurer, I bring my detail-oriented and organised nature, as well as my practical skills working with data on Excel and Google Sheets – I believe these aspects are crucial for the role, given the level of detail and expertise required to effectively manage the finances of the Malaysian Society.

While one of my aims as Treasurer is indeed to continue and maintain the existing systems for finances (i.e. financial transaction records and reimbursement processes), I also aim to grow the society's impact and improve the welfare of UCL Malaysians by increasing funding for the society. This will be achieved in two ways – firstly, by working closely with the Corporate Relations Director to secure new sponsorships from Malaysian companies. Secondly, by increasing the number of collaborative inter-cultural events, which represent an untapped revenue stream for our society, and allow us to increase the variety and scale of MSoc events.
