Joseph Varghese

As a First Year Representative for Malayali Society, I have had the privilege of experiencing glimpses of what a committee position would entail. Through these opportunities, I understand the society’s structure, goals, and the needs of our diverse members. Our society is a celebration of our roots, traditions, and unity through culture; in other terms, it is a home away from home. With being the biggest Malayali Society in London, I understand the massive weight that falls onto the committee, as the tasks expands to not just accommodating UCL students, but allowing our events to accommodate for and welcome people from all over London. With this, I am deeply committed to preserving and promoting Malayali culture while making it accessible and enjoyable for all students.

Working in such a tight knit group has made me appreciate the vitalness of teamwork, however I still feel that my skills of leadership and delegation makes more suited for a core role such as Vice President. I have many aspirations for the next year; from Onam celebrations to club nights, I will ensure our events are more engaging, inclusive, and memorable. But also, developing Mallu Soc into a support network that serves its members. This would entail hosting mentorship programs and career talks to help our members navigate university life and beyond, introducing a families system for freshers and much more!

I am excited about the possibilities ahead and would be honoured to be your Vice President.
