Law for All Society: President

Entering the law as a non-law student can feel like you are in a constant race to beat the odds. (I’m a History student, and there are many of us!). Wrapping your head around what seems to be a daunting journey ahead can be overwhelming. But being a non-law student can be a strength, not a liability.

I ran the Law Society at my school, so I have some experience with organisation and management. I have also shadowed barristers and interned at a solicitors firm. Having attended many of The LFA’s events over the past year, speaking to solicitors one-on-one and gaining insight into applications is invaluable. 

If I were your President, my aim would be to ensure this process is as easy and accessible as possible. The Law for All Society should be the backbone of your nascent career as a lawyer, something that you can lean on for advice and support.

There are two additions I would like to make:

1. The LFA has focused on hosting events on City firms. I plan to incorporate more medium-sized firms that are more-community orientated and less competitive.
2. I would also like to host more educational events where we invite speakers to provide introductory talks into certain areas of the law. Requests would be very welcome!

I will ensure that The Law for All Society is a great asset for you all.

My passion for law mirrors the ethos of Law for All. Rather than most non-law students viewing themselves as outsiders, I aim to make each non-law student realise and almost weaponise their unique position. The differing perspective that a non-law student can bring is attractive to employers by nature. So, I aspire to provide every society member with the courage and confidence needed to thrive in the legal world. 

I always seek to enhance any group that I am a part of, which is why I excel in positions of leadership. As the Law for All President, I will guide the society towards greater impact, creating the space for greater knowledge and accessibility into the field of law. I am deeply passionate about promoting diversity in this society. Nobody should feel anxious because of their “difference” in race, gender or degree discipline. Instead, I will ensure that all students feel motivated and empowered to pursue law.

My experience spans numerous legal schemes and open days, including the Hogan Lovells Launch Pad, White & Case First-Year Insight Scheme and multiple careers-based charity organisation events. Through all these legal encounters, I have gained firsthand insight into the industry, displaying my dedication towards ensuring that all UCL students can make the most out of career-building experiences. 

If elected, I will strive to increase industry exposure and highlight non-traditional routes into law, in order to see the Law for All society truly live up to its name.

I am honored to apply for the position of President of the Law for All (LFA) Society at UCL. With a solid foundation built from my previous roles as Commercial Awareness Officer and Events Officer, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of our society's vision, values, and the diverse needs of our student body. My experience and dedication make me confident in my ability to lead and inspire as President of the LFA Society.

As Commercial Awareness Officer, I organized impactful workshops and seminars that enhanced students' understanding of the legal landscape and promoted a sense of community. In my role as Events Officer, I curated a variety of engaging and inclusive events that catered to the interests and well-being of our members. These experiences have sharpened my leadership skills, reinforced my passion for fostering an inclusive environment, and prepared me to take on the responsibilities of President.

My vision as President is to build on the successes of our society and introduce innovative initiatives that promote inclusivity, collaboration, and personal growth. I plan to implement a mentorship program that pairs experienced students with newcomers, organize a series of career-focused workshops with industry experts, and host events that celebrate the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our members. Additionally, I aim to strengthen our partnerships with other societies and organizations to offer unique opportunities and broaden our members' horizons.
