I am applying for the Design Officer role for UCL’s Japan Society as I am eager to represent the society’s members and events in a realistic but aesthetic manner. Having grown up in Japan, I have a great appreciation for Japanese culture and want to capture Japan’s traditional and modern aspects through UCL Japan society’s social media presence.
As UCL Lifestyle Medicine’s secretary, I have worked alongside the marketing team, creating aesthetic and concise Instagram posts regarding our various socials (e.g., academic talks, morning runs, etc.). Moreover, my interest and background in art have allowed me to be very familiar with art-related software, including Canva and Procreate.
As a Design Officer, I aim to portray UCL’s Japan Society and our events in a holistic manner. When appropriate, I plan to create posts with a traditional aesthetic and, when suitable, a modern aesthetic. I am also familiar with creating Instagram Reels and TikToks and am open to filming these to present to members how the events are (e.g., behind the scenes and the actual event). This could help expand Japan Society’s social media presence.
Through my appreciation for Japanese culture, passion for art, and experience, I am excited to run for UCL Japan Society’s Design Officer.
Hi! I am Marni, and I am a first-year architecture student. I was born in Japan but moved to London when I was six.
I am nominating myself for the Japan Society Design Officer role because my hobbies include design and illustration, as well as my enthusiasm for participating in Japan Society events!
Although I spend most of my time at the Bartlett, I believe I can bring leadership to this role by combining my interests and embracing my culture. I specialize in digital illustration, but I am capable of creating almost anything, from collages to films. I believe I am creative enough to represent Japan Society by engaging students with my designs. With my strong design skills and experience in creating social media content, I can ensure that Japan Society maintains its fun and welcoming qualities.
I would love to have the chance to be Japan Society's Design Officer and get to know everyone more.
Thank you for reading!!
(Maji de vote me I’ll design cool posts 😼)
Hi everyone! I am Joshua Wong, a first-year student studying theoretical physics, and I am from Hong Kong.
After joining the Japan Society, I realised that the Japanese-styled Instagram posts are very eye-catching. They always grab my attention and encourage me to join events by the attractive images and by providing a brief description of what’s happening. I discovered that the way these posts are designed significantly influences how members perceive and engage with the society. Hence, I would like to become the Design Officer next year so that I can contribute to the society’s public image using the skills and knowledge I possess.
Having the experience of using design applications such as Canva, I believe I can ensure that the Japan Society’s Instagram posts remain appealing not only to current members but also to potential new members who might be interested in joining. Moreover, as a perfectionist, I strive to complete every task to the highest standard, and I can guarantee that every piece of work I create will reflect a high level of quality.
If I am elected as the Design Officer, I will maintain the high quality of our Instagram posts and also explore new merchandise options for members, such as T-shirts and caps. Additionally, I would like to introduce monthly Instagram posts which features interesting facts about Japanese culture, to broaden the cultural understanding of both Japanese and non-Japanese members.
Hope that you will vote for me!
