I bring strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills from organising fundraising projects for socially disadvantaged communities in Hong Kong. Additionally, growing up in an international school with 40+ nationalities in Hong Kong has given me a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity, which I will use to support student well-being, advocate for diverse voices, and create a welcoming, supportive environment for all of UCL.

As an international student who has lived the shared experience of adjusting to a new culture, homesickness, and finding a sense of belonging in a new environment, I am deeply committed to creating a supportive and inclusive community where each of us feels heard and valued. What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

My main goal would be to enhance the overall well-being and support system for international students. As an international student myself, I understand how hard it can be studying and living abroad especially for those who came alone. I aim to strengthen the mental health and well-being support for international students, for example organizing peer support groups. Next, I aim to promote guidance on affordable and safe housing options for anyone who needs support on accomodation. I would also love to strengthen cultural and social inclusion so that everyone feels like home and not alone.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

My journey has given me the empathy and motivation to advocate for better support systems for international students. I understand the challenges faced, including cultural adjustment, homesickness, and financial concerns. I did counselling skills workshops and I am an approachable and active listener. I can ensure everyone feel heard and supported. Also, I will take a proactive approach to identifying issues and finding solutions for students in need. Lastly, I deeply value cultural diversity and will work towards fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all international students.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Vote for me because I am passionate about improving students well-being and creating a supportive community. I understand the challenges of cultural adjustment, housing, finances, and mental health. With experience in teamwork and advocacy, I will work to enhance support services, promote inclusivity, and ensure your concerns are heard. I will be a proactive and approachable Welfare Officer dedicated to making a real difference, ready to listen and take action on the issues that matter most to international students. Let’s build a better, more supportive community together!

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

For international students in particular, coming to uni is a major life switch. I remember being so confused about all the visa details and Oyster cards! I'll make sure to accommodate a smooth transition for all of us by coming up with events that actually break the ice between people, and provide a better guideline for students settling in London. I'll try to prioritize events that take into account our mental health as well. Walks, bakery crawls, flag quizzes, foodie networks- there's going to be something for everyone :)

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Having been involved as the president of many clubs in high school (MUN, theater, basketball, film-making, gastronomy), I know how to organize a timeline and represent our unique hobbies that Londoners may not be familiar with. I'm also very keen on breaking stereotypes as I've been exposed to many as a Turkish girl, and will be prioritizing unity and non-judgmental togetherness while also introducing fun ice-breaker events.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I'd say I'm the perfect balance between organization and fun, and I'd love to represent the international community's voice by making sure we have our survival tools (guides for getting accustomed to London and logistics- see it say it sorted lol) and also events promoting our inclusion within the school. I believe I'm an approachable person and would love to voice any concerns of our community as well :)
