Election post
Hi guys, I'm Adam.
Welfare is something that I'm really passionate about. As a small institute, we should operate as a family, and I feel like creating an inclusive, safe and friendly environment is a realistic and desirable goal of the IA.
As vice president of my sports team, I took over the welfare portfolio when our secretary dropped out, and with the amazing training UCL gives, I have had a great experience helping ensure that people are kept safe. From sending my freshers home when thye've had one too many, to helping appeal against a ban from social spaces, I feel I have a good grounding in the role to bring a productive voice to the table.
On mental health, I'm a big believer that many hands make light work. Rather than pretending to be someone everyone feels comfortable talking to, I would instead encourage everyone to check up on their friends and sign-post help. I'd also look into getting all years an online wellbeing course.
As a person with a disability; coming from a mixed race background; and being a member of a minority religious group, I've been able to fit in really well at the IA. However, there shouldn't even be a question of fitting in. I will strive to make the IA more inclusive to everyone.
I like to think (when I'm not being fun) that I am quite professional, and I would work with staff, the union and student body to ensure that everyone is comfortable and feels safe on campus.
I really look forward working with everyone!
