Indian Dance Society: Marketing Officer

I'm applying for the role of Marketing Officer because I want to give back to a society that’s had a massive impact on me. Before joining IDS, I had never danced in my life — but within a few months, I was performing live on stage in front of a huge audience. That growth wouldn’t have happened without this community, and I’m keen to contribute behind the scenes.

I have experience editing a large-scale dance showcase in my hometown and use both iMovie and Adobe Premiere for video editing. My DJ training has also given me a strong foundation in audio editing and mixing. I’d love to apply these skills to help create weekly dance class reels, edit promotional videos for Just Bollywood, and mix audio content that captures the energy of the society.

Over the past year, I’ve built connections with external dancers through Choreo One and its team, and I’ve attended most of this year’s external workshops. I’ve also been a regular at the Thursday classes, where I’ve met some of my closest friends. I’m currently exploring the potential to bring in new talent, such as Rakhee Visavadia, our Choreo One choreographer. I’d be excited to work closely with the Social Media Director and collaborate with other universities and societies to help plan joint events and workshops.

IDS has given me so much, and I’d love the opportunity to give back by helping shape how we represent ourselves to the wider community.
