As I ambled giddily around the freshers fair in September, I was undecided whether to join ScubaSoc, ChessSoc, BurmeseSoc, or CricketSoc. Yet when I saw the glistening eyes of Isabel Hodson, I knew hockey was my calling.
In these first months of hockey, I have had the privilege of playing with both the threes and the twos. This has put me in the special position of knowing most the individuals of the UC men’s hockey club. Alongside the honour of playing for both these teams, my dedication to stick and ball has been shown by frequently playing for the Accies on Saturdays. Not only has this improved my knowledge about tax returns and balance sheets but is also evidence of my superior love for the beautiful game compared to other fresh. Yet, as fun as Saturday’s and free pints are, my favourite part of the hockey week has undoubtedly been the social scene of Wednesday evenings. For this reason, I would love to be social sec to not only continue the traditions of many socials, whilst also trialling newer reforms for the betterment of the club.
My main social aims are an increased variety of Wednesday evenings. Hockey and our resident wags should remain at the heart and soul of Phinneas. However, I would like to trial a social with one of either women’s Netball, lacrosse, or football to enhance the threes social skills and the club’s enjoyment. Conveniently I have female acquaintances involved in these clubs, some of whom are running for their respective social sec positions. This makes me an ideal candidate to find
