Mandheep Dasi

Hi everyone!

I’m Mandheep, and I’m excited to run for Social Secretary of the UCL Hindu Society. Being part of this society has been so enjoyable with my first ever Garba and an incredible DBall, so I’m passionate about creating events that bring us closer together while celebrating our culture.

Having organised events and secured sponsorships as Co-Founder of my school’s Economics and Finance Society, I’ve gained first-hand experience in planning large-scale events and ensuring strong turnout by making them enjoyable and interactive. Additionally, my work liaising between alumni and student organisations has sharpened my communication and coordination skills, which I’ll use to make our socials better and more memorable.

My Goals

  • Bigger and Better Events – I’ll ensure the Hindu Soc Families are more interactive with more activities to do as a family, creating a space where everyone feels welcome.
  • Social Traditions – I’d love to carry on Bollywood movie nights, Garba workshops with other Societies, and bhajan nights, alongside collaboration events with other societies to expand our community.
  • Stronger Community Feel – My goal is to make every member feel involved, whether it’s through casual meet-ups, themed socials, or exciting group activities.

I’m confident that my experience in event planning and relationship-building will help me deliver unforgettable social experiences for all of us. Thank you all for considering my application.

Damini Apte

Namaste everyone!

My name is Damini, and I’m nominating myself for Social Secretary because Hindu Society socials have been a huge part of my university experience. At the start of the year, I met so many of my friends through these events, and these truly made me feel welcomed. From big socials to Hsoc families, every event helped create friendships and a real sense of community. I want to make sure next year’s socials continue to bring people together and make uni life even more enjoyable.

Being involved in Shakha, a social Hindu community organisation, has given me experience in planning inclusive and engaging events. Organising socials and activities is something I genuinely enjoy, and I’ve seen firsthand how they bring people closer. I want to bring that same energy to Hindu Society, making sure our events are fun, meaningful, and something everyone looks forward to.

With a focus on making socials even more engaging and creating a space where everyone feels involved, I would make sure everyone has a great time. Whether it’s organising big events like the Welcome Mela or planning smaller, more interactive socials, I’ll work to ensure there’s something for everyone.

This society has given me so much, and I’d love the opportunity to give back by making next year’s socials the best they can be. I’d really appreciate your support!

Thank you! 😊

Krish Baranwal

I am standing for Social Secretary because I want to help create a welcoming and inclusive environment where HinduSoc members can form lasting friendships and truly feel part of a community. Social events play a huge role in bringing people together, and I am excited about the opportunity to organise engaging, creative, and memorable experiences for both society members and the committee.

With five years of experience as a cadet in the RAF, I have developed strong leadership, organisational, and teamwork skills. I am used to planning and coordinating activities that encourage bonding and teamwork—qualities that will be invaluable in organising events such as Welcome Mela, Hindu Society Families, and inter-family competitions. Additionally, my involvement in UCL’s badminton society for civil engineers has given me hands-on experience in managing logistics and ensuring events run smoothly.

I am particularly excited to bring fresh, creative ideas to HinduSoc socials, ensuring they cater to a wide range of interests and allow all members to connect in a fun and meaningful way. I will also work closely with the sports officers to organise sports socials, ensuring that teams feel just as involved in the wider society.

As I will be stepping away from cadets in September, I will have the time and commitment to fully dedicate myself to this role. My goal is to ensure that every social event strengthens the sense of belonging within HinduSoc, making it a space where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Deep Patel

I am standing for Social Secretary because I am passionate about building a strong, welcoming and inclusive community within Hindu Society. Hinduism teaches us about the core values of unity and I want to bring this principle to life through the events I organise. University is about more than just academics - it is about forming lifelong connections and creating an exciting environment, which I aim to create through the engaging events I organise.

If elected, I will ensure that our society's socials are diverse, well-organised and enjoyable for everyone. I want to create events that cater to all types of people - whether sporty, artsy, competitive or simply looking for a relaxed social environment, I will make sure that every member finds something that they can enjoy.

As a member of my school council, I played a key role in organising many social events, including charity initiatives like "Pie a Teacher". Additionally, my involvement in cricket at school has allowed me to work closely with fellow teammates to arrange team socials, tournaments and inter-society events. These experiences have given me strong organisational, teamwork, and leadership skills - qualities that I will bring to this role.

With my event-planning experience, enthusiasm and commitment to bringing people together, I am confident I can elevate the social experience within Hindu Society. I would love the opportunity to contribute and make this year truly special.

Shashank Iyer

Namaskar! I am running for the HSoc committee with boundless energy (I'm sure some of you would say too much) and a desire to work tirelessly with the rest of the team to deliver high-quality events that are synonymous with HSoc. I have a genuine passion for planning events and will ensure strong coordination with the committee and external partners to provide incredible experiences at affordable prices, because we all know TFL's draining the bank account as it is. The responsibility of allowing events  to run smoothly, giving you an event that cannot be topped would be an honour of mine. Along with this, I will conduct deals with large-scale companies to form a strong backbone for the society, as well as collaborate with smaller partners so that every detail is met, such as ensuring high-quality catering at D Ball, longer slots for acts at Rangeela, and sponsorships you’d be proud to be associated with. I will also focus on making events more interactive, ensuring every member feels involved and has a voice in shaping our activities. Having played team sports for around 15 years, working in a committee comes naturally to me - I love hearing new ideas, giving my own, and getting stuck into behind-the-scenes work that often goes overlooked. I am always ready to go the extra mile to make HSoc the best it can be and in short, a vote for me ensures that you have a voice in the happenings of UCL's biggest society, and is a guarantee that the high standards of HSoc will be upheld.

Suhani Bapat

Having found a truly wholesome community and meaningful friendships through Hindu Society this year, I would love to provide every member with the same welcoming and enriching experience. As aspiring social secretary, I aim to enhance the family system by arranging regular family dinners and outings, ensuring that new members feel a genuine sense of belonging and have a reliable network for guidance and emotional support. Furthermore, I will organise creative and engaging inter-family competitions, as what better way to bring people together than with a little friendly competition?

Potential ideas include :

  • Bollywood murder mystery night – characters could be inspired by Hindu mythology and Bollywood
  • Hindu society olympics – including traditional games such as carrom and kho kho
  • Classical dance-off - a chance to showcase traditional dance styles

To manage high-pressure situations like Rangeela, I will organise socials for each of the acts, providing performers with the opportunity to unwind and build camaraderie outside of rehearsals. Additionally, to ensure the Welcome Mela is an unforgettable experience, we will showcase vibrant live performances and a diverse array of cultural stalls, each representing unique traditions and offering a variety of street foods, striving to make new students feel at home.

With creativity as well as leadership, I am confident in my ability to run seamless, engaging, and inclusive socials that celebrate our culture while fostering friendships.

Arhham Shah

I am standing for the position of Social Secretary in the UCL Hindu Society because I am passionate about creating vibrant, inclusive, and engaging spaces where students can celebrate Hindu culture, traditions, and values. Hindu Soc plays a vital role in fostering a strong sense of community, and I want to contribute by organizing events that bring people together, making our society more welcoming and memorable for everyone.

Alongside my enthusiasm for cultural engagement, I have practical experience in event planning, having worked as a freelance event organizer for social establishments in Mumbai for over a year. This has equipped me with the skills to plan, organize, and execute a variety of events, from large-scale celebrations to more intimate and interactive gatherings. I believe these skills would be invaluable in curating dynamic events that cater to the diverse interests of our society members—whether through festivals, social gatherings, or collaborative initiatives with other societies.

By combining my love for community-building with my event management experience, I aim to create exciting and meaningful events that strengthen our society and provide a space where students can embrace and celebrate Hindu culture. I look forward to the opportunity to make a lasting impact as Social Secretary of UCL Hindu Soc.
