I am standing for General Secretary because I want to contribute to the smooth running of HinduSoc, ensuring that everything behind the scenes is well-organised so the society can thrive. I understand the key role that HinduSoc plays in fostering community, and I believe that my experience and dedication make me well-suited to take on this responsibility.
With five years of experience as a cadet in the RAF, I have developed strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills. I am used to handling admin tasks, coordinating teams, and ensuring operations run efficiently—skills that directly align with the role of General Secretary. Additionally, I already manage similar responsibilities at UCL through my involvement in the badminton society for civil engineers, where I help with scheduling and logistics.
With my background in structured planning, delegation, and decision-making, I am confident that I can handle key tasks such as booking rooms, creating rehearsal schedules, and liaising with Rangeela choreographers effectively. As I will be stepping away from cadets in September, the timing is perfect for me to fully dedicate myself to this role.
Ultimately, I want to use my skills to ensure HinduSoc runs seamlessly, supporting the core team and the wider community so we can deliver great events and experiences for everyone.

I am standing for the position of General Secretary of the UCL Hindu Society because I am passionate about fostering an inclusive and engaging community where students can celebrate Hindu culture, traditions, and values. Hindu Soc is more than just a society—it’s a home away from home, and I want to ensure it continues to thrive as a welcoming and dynamic space for all.
As a Theoretical Physics student, I have always been fascinated by the blend of tradition and modernity, and I believe Hinduism’s values remain deeply relevant today. Alongside my enthusiasm for cultural engagement, I have practical experience in event planning, having worked as a freelance event organizer in Mumbai for over a year. This has equipped me with the skills to plan and execute a wide range of events, from large festivals to smaller, interactive gatherings.
As General Secretary, I aim to enhance collaboration, streamline event execution, and introduce fresh initiatives that make our society more vibrant and accessible. Whether through expanding inter-society collaborations, organizing engaging cultural discussions, or strengthening our community spirit, I want to ensure Hindu Soc continues to be a meaningful part of student life at UCL.
By combining my leadership skills, event management experience, and passion for bringing people together, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the society’s growth and success.

Hi, I'm Maya and I'm applying to be your next Hindu Society General Secretary!
Hindu society has been an integral part of my first year university experience, giving me a strong sense of community, a deeper connection to my culture and the opportunity to build lasting friendships through events such as Welcome Mela, Hsoc families and Rangeela! Being an FYR has given me a real insight into the dedication and effort that goes into running the society. Seeing the committee's hard work was truly inspiring and has motivated me to take on the role of General Secretary to give back to this incredible society.
With experience as the chair of my school's community committee, I have successfully organised various events such as second-hand clothing sales and overseen year-long volunteering programs. This role has contributed to improving my leadership, organisation and teamwork skills - qualities that are essential for keeping Hindu society running smoothly.
As General Secretary, I will strive to ensure clear communication, efficient planning and seamless collaboration within the committee, especially when organising Rangeela. I aim to work to maintain the society's strong foundations whilst bringing in fresh ideas to enhance our events, communication and outreach. My goal is to work with the committee to create a space where everyone feels welcome, engaged and proud to be a part of this community and I truly hope that the role I play can help someone else have an experience like mine.
