Candidates

Avdesh Dagar

I study medicine at UCL, and being an FYR for Hindu Society has been one of the most fulfilling and culturally enriching parts of my university experience. I’ve loved contributing to the society’s success, from marketing to setting up events, and now I’m ready to step up as Executive Director.

I have strong experience in managing large-scale events. As Vice President of Engineering for a two-time national-winning UK Space Design team, I led 60 people under high-pressure conditions, ensuring tasks were delegated efficiently. These leadership and organisational skills will help me run Hindu Society events with structure and efficiency.

As an FYR, I’ve seen what works and what can be improved. One key change I’d bring is ensuring events stay on schedule, with smoother transitions and better coordination. This would create a more polished and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Hindu Society is a core part of my university life, and I want to continue contributing to its success. I am passionate, organised, and experienced—vote for me, and together, we can make our events even bigger, better, and more memorable.

Krish Baranwal

I am standing for Executive Director because I want to play an active role in ensuring HinduSoc’s events are well-planned, well-executed, and continue to bring the community together. This role requires strong leadership, organisation, and teamwork—qualities I have developed through my experience in both the RAF Cadets and my involvement in UCL’s badminton society for civil engineers.

Having been a cadet for the past five years, I am used to working under pressure, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring that events and activities run smoothly. I have experience in structured planning, time management, and coordination, all of which are essential for ensuring that HinduSoc events—from Holi to Diwali Ball—are executed to a high standard. Additionally, my experience with scheduling and logistics in my badminton society has given me hands-on experience in managing events efficiently.

As I will be stepping away from cadets in September, I will have the time and commitment to fully dedicate myself to this role. I am particularly keen to work closely with the President, Vice-Presidents, and General Secretary to ensure HinduSoc’s flagship events are well-organised and enjoyable for all members.

Ultimately, I want to use my skills to enhance HinduSoc’s events, ensuring they are seamless, well-structured, and continue to strengthen the sense of community within the society.

Ema Gholkar

I’m running for Executive Director of UCL’s Hindu Society because I want to give back to a community that has truly inspired me. The current committee is not only dedicated and hardworking but also so wholesome—their bond and teamwork are truly special. Seeing how they support each other and work together to create such memorable events has made me want to be part of a family like this, where passion and friendship go hand in hand. I’ve always loved organizing events and bringing people together. While I don’t have a formal background in event planning, I’ve had experience planning both my Year 11 and Year 13 proms, which taught me how to coordinate, manage time effectively, and pay attention to the details that make an event truly stand out. There is something very rewarding about seeing an idea come to life and knowing that people are enjoying an event you helped create.  As Executive Director, I hope to bring  enthusiasm, organisation, and new ideas to ensure every event, from D Ball to Holi, runs smoothly and is a great experience for everyone. I’m excited to work alongside my other team members, support the President in delegating tasks, and play a role in making our society’s events as memorable as possible. I would love to be a part of Hindu Society as it also acts like a home away from home for multiple students like me who's family lives in a different country, which is why I am all the more passionate about contributing to continuing it's legacy for the next year.

Damini Apte

Namaste everyone!

I’m Damini and I am excited to apply for the role of Executive Director to contribute to the smooth running of events and support the society in every way possible. Having established a Hindu Society at my school, I understand the responsibility that comes with organising events and ensuring they are well-structured and engaging. My involvement in Shakha (a Hindu community organisation) has given me hands-on experience in planning and executing large-scale celebrations, discussions, and activities, strengthening my ability to coordinate events effectively.

Through these experiences, I have developed leadership skills, quick decision-making abilities, and an eye for detail. Communication, adaptability and teamwork are at the heart of event planning, and I believe these strengths will allow me to effectively contribute to the society’s events.

If given the opportunity, I would work hard to ensure that the Hindu Society events are well-organised and enjoyable for everyone.

I would love the chance to take on this role and be part of making these events a success. Thank you! 😊

Arjun Nair

This year I have attended every Hindu Soc event and they have been some of my best experiences at uni. As a large society many people look forward to these events and I would love to create memorable days like that for them next year.

It is vital that our events are of the highest standard as they are attended by hundreds of people who are paying money to be there. I want to ensure that attendees leave each event wishing they could go back and relive it all over again. I am generally critical of events and I always like to think of things that I would have done differently, so I think I am capable of overviewing planning and finding improvements for each event. Holi is one of my favourite events so I would love to plan it.

As a student waiter at Diwali Ball I saw the behind the scenes of event day, helping me to understand a little of just how much work is required to organise such massive events. However I believe I have the right organisational and communication skills to converse with other committee members so that things can run smoothly on event day and in the preceding days. I recognise the stress caused when things don’t go to plan and time is short, but usually I am able to stay calm and I try to never let stress stop me.

Finally I would love the responsibility and challenge of having a core committee role, as I believe I thrive when I have other important occupations outside of academics. I want to work with the team and raise our society’s standard even higher.
