Loon Wei Foo

Hello! I’m Loon Wei and here’s why I’m running for VP: Beyond my absolute love for hiking, my experiences in UCLHSS led to a desire to

  1. Contribute to a greater capacity in planning
  2. Foster a more expansive community
  3. Have a hand in shaping the direction that the future committee decides on!

Why me?

  1. Prior leadership/planning experiences: Alongside heading student leadership boards, in my military service I’ve planned countless exercises for up to 300 people.
  2. Sociable: I love company and having conversations with new people, especially through our hikes/residentials :D
  3. Hiking experiences: Been through some pretty extreme (solo) situations, so I definitely can and will have the ENERGY to take on anything!

Since residentials are no longer part of the jobscope, it truly is a blank canvas to paint. If elected, these are the key pillars to my vision as VP under the C4 Framework.

  1. Continuity - Focusing on laying firm foundations for new initiatives like the Magazine as well as inter-hiking competitions planned by the previous committee.
  2. Community-Building - Balancing more events between avid and casual hikers and continuing building this sense of community beyond just mere interest.
  3. Centralization- Lower the barrier to entry for receiving information through a consolidated platform and improving engagement (since there’s just SO MANY events we do)
  4. Concessions - (attempting to) SECURE EXCLUSIVE SPONSORSHIPs - PRIVILEGES AND DISCOUNTS FOR ALL HIKING MEMBERS!!

Nellie Szeplaki

Hi, I’m Nellie and I’m running to be your next Vice President! Here’s why you should vote for me:

  1. Active club member

On top of walk leading, I've been an active part of the sub-committee, helping to launch our brand new magazine ‘The Navigator’. Working closely with committee members on this project has given me a great insight into what exactly their roles are like and has only made me more enthusiastic about joining the team!

  2.  Inclusivity & encouragement

One of my most rewarding experiences has been volunteering to help children with physical disabilities and learning difficulties enjoy horse-riding lessons in a safe, relaxing environment. This inspired me to start my current job, teaching beginner coding classes to primary school children. Being able to share my interests and make them accessible to others is a passion of mine and I would love to do the same with hiking by becoming your Vice President.

  3.  Leadership

As well as being elected to lead the Student Digital Leaders in my high school, I have worked a managerial position in a London café. I’ve learnt a lot about problem solving and team communication, and also gained experience with thorough admin completion and finance handling.

As your Vice President I will use my skills to provide strong support to both the President and all other committee members, and above all I will be a friendly face for current and new members to keep our society the welcoming space it is! Thanks for reading and I'll see you soon! :)

Slava Bulin

Hi All! I’m running to be next year’s Vice President, helping to keep the club running smoothly, making sure we have enough hikes, socials and – most importantly – residentials for the year ahead! Hard-core Hiker? Or just looking to spend a day with nature, outside of London? Don’t worry, I’ll make sure there are always events for you to look forward to!

Missed out on a Residential? Interested in camping but lack the equipment?

I’ll have you covered – the club currently has a stockpile of unused equipment including tents. If elected, I’ll create ‘Mini-Residentials:’ an extended version of our weekend hikes where you can borrow the club’s tents, even during term time!

As the current club Secretary, I’ve launched the First Ever Inter-University Team Hiking Competition (to be held in June annually) which will bring together all the things that I’m passionate about: orienteering, camping and most importantly hiking! As Vice, I’ll make sure that this event continues to grow and becomes one of the highlights of our Hiking Calendar!

I’m also eager to introduce Themed Hikes, periodically partnering with cultural societies so that we can explore and learn even more of the world on our hikes! Home to a number of great photographers, bird and plane spotting enthusiasts there’s a chance to work with relevant societies as well!

I’ve outlined just a few ideas about how I hope to improve the club, and with your support I hope to share and implement them with the next committee!
