Hiking Club: Social Secretary

Hi, I hope to become one of next year’s social secretaries, I am running because I have had some experience both informally and formally planning events and I have really enjoyed being able to bring people together. The Hiking society is one of the biggest societies at UCL and its socials really do help make the atmosphere on walks friendly and welcoming. Before university I ran my sixth form’s annual food drive and was a part of the prom planning committee, and I think I could use the skills I’ve learnt to make enjoyable socials that include as many members as possible.

As Social Secretary I’d like to introduce:
- UCL Hiking Quiz nights
Inclusive for both the competitive and social club members, quiz nights would be a flexible social that I hope would be a fun opportunity to meet new people or have a nice time with friends.

- Creativity walks
Walks that aim to give people the opportunity to create, whether that’s sketching, watercolour, photography or even writing.

As well as these initial plans, the best socials are those centred around what the community wants. My strength is as a planner of events and I enjoy making other people’s ideas come to life. If I am elected I’d prioritise reaching out within the community to encourage people to share any ideas they might have.
