The Hiking Club is one of my biggest highlights of Year 1. Meeting new people, travelling to new places in the UK, and challenging myself on hikes have helped me grow as a person. I would love to carry this forward through a role in the Hiking Committee, working with fellow hiking enthusiasts to ensure that future UCL students have a great hiking experience as I have had. Moreover, I can contribute to the club by channelling my passion for hiking into tangible work through my communication skills, teamwork mindset, and work ethic.

The Communications Officer role aligns with my strengths and experience. Having managed social media for a mental health charity and coordinated an online book club, I have helped create engaging content that builds community. My proficiency with design tools like Canva would allow me to create posts for the Hiking Club across Instagram, Strava, and other platforms. I'm also passionate about photography and would capture not only landscapes but also the meaningful connections formed during our adventures.

I would update our Instagram with consistent content including hike highlights and member spotlights to boost engagement and build community among members. My marketing experience would also be valuable for promoting upcoming hikes to new students by addressing common concerns. In all, I would love the chance to communicate hiking's positive impact on well-being through our platforms to inspire more students to join us on the trails.

Jess Claridge Law

Hellooo! I’m Jess, studying BA Geography, and I’m standing for communications officer for the hiking club! I joined the UCL hiking club in September and have completed 5 hikes since, and I am currently a walk leader!

I would love to be the society’s communications officer because I am currently the social media manager for another society, and have had a blast doing that! I’ve been running the Instagram, Whatsapp and webpages so have plenty of experience trying to engage readers and fellow members of the society! I love to be creative and crafty, so I have experience with Canva, Procreate and Adobe too!

As a communications officer I would bring:

  • creativity! Part of posting on social media outlets is about being creative and drawing people in!
  • humour!
  • organisation!
  • PHOTOS!!!! I take photos of everything… (if you slip in the mud, best believe a photo of you will end up in the Newsletter and the Instagram !!)

I would love to join the hiking club committee and act as your communications officer, so please consider voting!!! :))

Tiffany Fu

I’m Tiffany, a first-year History student! I joined UCL Hiking to marvel at picturesque English sceneries but stayed for the community :) I’m really passionate about design, marketing and social media and would love to serve as your comms officer next year!

What I Hope to Achieve:

  2. Instagram polls, sneak peaks, and takeovers from the committee to engage our audience
  3. Fun skits with the committee, sub-committee and fellow hikers, e.g. A Day in the Life of our President, Residential Recap, Come for a Hike with Us!
  4. Keeping the community informed!
