Election post

Hi everyone! I’m Sophie a second-year Classics student, and I’m excited to run for Welfare Officer for UCL Guild. You might be wondering—why is a Classics student running for a position in a business society? Well, that’s exactly why I want to get involved. Business, consulting, and finance can feel like a world dominated by students from economics and management backgrounds, but they’re industries open to everyone. As Welfare Officer, I want to help make UCL Guild more accessible to students from all degrees, whether you’re studying Ancient Greek or Mechanical Engineering. This year, I’ve already been a Welfare Officer for another society, so I know how important it is to make sure members feel welcomed and supported. Whether that means running career events that don’t assume prior knowledge, creating informal networking opportunities, or just making sure everyone feels comfortable at events, I want to make sure Guild is an inclusive space where people from all backgrounds feel like they belong.
Beyond welfare, I’d love to get involved in organizing events as well. I know that a big part of what makes a society enjoyable is the community it builds, and I’d love to help plan social events, coffee chats, and panel discussions that bring people together in a more relaxed way.
