Eddie Wang

Hi all, it's Eddie, your president for this academic year (2024/2025). I'm standing for re-election as I believe that I am still the best candidate to run this society. Here's why:

  • This year under me:
We've massively increased the number and scale of our online and offline events; we have organised the first esports competition in the London Varsity Series, and another four-university Varsity alongside it, as well as collaborating with a wider selection of universities in and around London. We've also secured more sponsorships and have set the foundation for even more over the next few months and years. We also ran the most successful charity stream to date (if shaving my head isn't dedication, what is?), and so many more improvements I don't have the space to mention.
  • Consistency
There is always a part of the year in which everything slows down: the handover period. If I'm re-elected, there will be no lag between this year and the next, which means I can bring my experience and knowledge to start planning future events ASAP. Furthermore, I will maintain my high standards in leadership to continue the upwards trajectory of the society, which has so far been reflected in this year's successes. Finally, I will build upon our unfinished plans with the groundwork we already have (more merch, sponsorships, brand discounts).

I believe that I have the dedication to this society to run it for another year, and to improve upon what was already a wonderful year. I hope you will agree. :)

Ahmad Arefin

My name is Ahmad Arefin (The Gamexpert), and I am incredibly excited at the opportunity to stand for the position of UCL Gaming Society President. I am currently a second-year undergraduate History student, and the Game Admin for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so you may know of me already! I have always had an immense passion for video games, and I love playing games from all genres and publishers, both casually and competitively. I have a particular interest in Nintendo games, and I love roguelikes, indie games, platformers and RPGs, but I also play multiplayer shooters like CSGO, Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals.

As President, I would plan to continue focusing on organising exciting events (in places like SideQuest and Matcha Mochi Café, as well as on campus), supporting and facilitating our admins for the teams for e-sports in competitions like NSE and NUEL, and ensuring everyone is able to enjoy exclusive benefits as part of their membership. I am committed to making the society a safe, welcoming environment for everyone, and a place to hang out and make friends with others. I aim for there to be more in-person events and opportunities for people to be able to share and talk about games that are important and meaningful to them! I also plan to collaborate with other societies in UCL and other universities' Gaming societies for events.

I look forward to being an active, friendly and approachable President, and I hope you'll vote for me in this year's elections!
