I’m Vivienne, a second-year Media student at UCL and one of the current SEIM for FilmSoc. As a filmmaker with experience in directing, producing, and cinematography, I understand the importance of a well-maintained and accessible production space. Over the past few months, I have been responsible for managing FilmSoc’s studio and equipment, ensuring they remain organised, functional, and available to all members.

Through this role, I have identified areas that need improvement. The Booqable booking system needs updating to reflect the full range of available equipment, making it easier for members to reserve what they need. The studio’s storage system is outdated and not designed for heavy filmmaking equipment such as cameras, C-stands, and lighting gear. Replacing it with more durable and secure alternatives will help protect the equipment and improve accessibility. Additionally, many items are currently stored without proper packaging, with cameras and lenses kept separately rather than in organised kits. This creates both a safety risk and an inconvenience for members, as equipment is more prone to damage and harder to transport. I aim to implement a more structured packaging system, ensuring that essential gear is stored and lent out in complete, easy to carry sets.

Through the SEIM position, I hope to make FilmSoc’s studio more efficient, organised, and accessible, creating a smoother experience for all members working on their projects.
