Preserving the Film Society’s history and making it accessible is very important. With my experience in organising data and managing projects, I’m comfortable handling large amounts of information and will ensure that past projects, events, and publications are preserved and easy to access. My goal is to create a user friendly archive that highlights our legacy, inspires future generations, and encourages contributions :)

Shyamoli Shah

The position of Archives officer and the ability to uphold and preserve UCL’s rich cinematic history, excites me tremendously. I am fascinated by the materiality of cinema and how the tools we use impact the stories we tell. This position is a wonderful opportunity to channel my passion for cinema history and analogue and physical media while expanding my knowledge of film technology. Beyond this, I also have past experience working in archives like the Indian Film Heritage Foundation, where I was responsible for researching and documenting the filmographies of directors like Tapan Sinha and Shayam Benegal, as well as the cataloguing of artefacts, personal archives and donations. Being Studio, Equipment and IT Manager this past year, I have gained experience on the committee and strong organisational and communication skills, which will be crucial to my position as Archives Officer. As a second year, I can dedicate the time and effort to carry out this role. Besides, I believe we must look back to move forward. During this upcoming academic year, I hope to open our community to Film Society's broad history of creativity, storytelling and technology,  by ringing our past achievements into the present as points of inspiration, education and excitement.
