This society has been a wonderful place to interact with others interested in linguistics and conlanging this past year, and so, as someone who has been making conlangs for years and is currently studying linguistics, I would love the opportunity to share my knowledge and create fun opportunities for others interested to begin creating languages through the position of Conlanging Officer. If I were to be chosen I would want to hold workshops on linguistics topics needed for conlanging that would be aimed at both complete beginners and more experienced conlangers who simply want to brush up on certain topics or join in and give their advice to newer members, as well as speedlanging sessions and longer term bigger projects to work on as a group. I would also like to potentially create a joint artificial creole similar to how Pifdofwas was created, to give people an opportunity to see how languages can form and evolve first hand. Linguistic workshops would focus on both specific features such as word order, or vowel systems for new projects, and on more general topics such as diachronics (how languages change though time) to help evolve existing projects. They would also help explain the different forms conlangs can take, eg- a priori vs a posteriori, englangs vs naturalistic languages; creoles/pidgins vs single primary origin languages, etc.
Any suggestions and other topics people would be interested in would of course always be accepted.
Thank you to everyone in EELsoc!
