Akhilesh Sivananthan

I am eager to take on a key role in the Engineering Society, building on my past experience as Projects Executive to drive impactful initiatives and support the committee in delivering exceptional events. Having successfully organized and managed large-scale projects (e.g. Engineering Ball 2024, London 2050, BPuzzled Hackathon), I am prepared to take on greater responsibilities, ensuring our society remains one of the best on campus.
My leadership roles in the Energy Society have equipped me with strong networking and sponsorship acquisition skills, allowing me to liaise effectively with large organizations to secure funding and support. I understand the importance of fostering corporate relationships and ensuring long-term partnerships that benefit our members.
Additionally, my time on the UCL Racing team has strengthened my teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Working under pressure and adapting quickly to challenges has prepared me to take on a leadership role that requires both strategic planning and hands-on execution.
In any position, I will be committed to mentoring new committee members, ensuring smooth collaboration across teams, and helping deliver innovative events and projects. My goal is to elevate the society’s impact, strengthen industry connections, and create an engaging environment for all members.
I am excited about the opportunity to contribute my skills and experience to continue the society’s success and bring fresh ideas to the team.

Carla Prados Bodega

Hi! I’m Carla, a Biomedical Engineering student, and I’m excited to run for Vice President of UCLES. Being part of this society has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my time at UCL, and I’m eager to take on a greater role in shaping its future.

As First-Year Representative, I gained first-hand experience in committee operations, event planning, and student engagement. Working closely with the team, I saw how impactful UCLES can be. Now, I want to build on this foundation to make UCLES even better.

Along with Catharina (running for President), we have planned to implement a ‘Family’ scheme that would be used in both academic and social events. This scheme would help create a long-term network that would benefit everyone beyond their UCL studies and be fun to participate in.

Additionally, I would:

  • Strengthen ties between students and industry by facilitating hands-on experiences such as company visits, technical workshops & engineering projects that provide real-world experience.
  • Streamline communication within the society by implementing a member feedback system, ensuring that students have a say in the events, workshops, and opportunities UCLES offers.
  • Improve inter-society collaboration by working with other engineering and STEM societies to expand networking opportunities, host interdisciplinary events, and create cross-departmental projects.

I look forward to continuing my contribution to UCLES and working with the committee to make the society the best it can be.

Jiwan Choi

Hello! I'm Jiwan, a second-year Chemical Engineering student from Korea running for Vice President. I have leadership and event organisation experience, having co-founded UCL Piano Society and served as a G3 Coordinator in UCL Energy Society. These roles have strengthened my organisational, communication, and teamwork skills, which I will bring to UCLES to create an inclusive, innovative, and well-connected community.

If elected, I will focus on:

  1. Hosting Large-Scale Speaker Events: I will organise conferences with professionals from diverse engineering backgrounds, giving students valuable industry insights.
  2. Building Stronger Partnerships: I will strengthen collaborations with societies within and beyond UCL and work with external organisations to bring new opportunities to UCLES members.
  3. Increasing Social and Interdepartmental Engagement: I will create more opportunities for students across engineering disciplines to connect through social events and projects.
  4. Supporting the President and Committee Members: I will work closely with the President to execute the society’s vision and assist committee members in maximising UCLES’ impact.

UCLES has shaped my university experience, and I want to ensure every member can grow, thrive, and build lasting connections. I am committed to bringing fresh ideas, strong leadership, and a passion for engineering while fostering a more engaging and social community.

Let’s build a stronger UCLES together!

Zainab Waly

I am standing for the role of Vice President of Engineering Society as a member of the previous 2024-2025 committee, where I am currently assuming the role of Events Executive. Throughout this year, I've loved aiding in the organisation events across such an expansive society- a particular highlight being the Painting Picnic at the beginning of the academic year- and would love to continue to contribute to the society as a member of the Committee for the following year. My time has provided me with the hands on experience regarding the running of Engineering Society as well as the necessary insight on what members would love to see in the events sphere and how they want to be represented across the broader UCL community. Furthermore, the experience I have garnered as a committee member of my own departmental society would enable me, as prospective Vice President, to effectively liaise with the broader Engineering Society coalition- a crucial attribute in one of the largest student societies across the United Kingdom! From helping secure future prosperous sponsorships to holding even bigger and better events, it would be a privilege to have the opportunity to assist the incoming year's President in what is hopefully the best year for the Society yet!

Kar Yee Lee

Hey everyone! I’m Kelly, and I’m excited to be running for Vice President of UCLES. As First Year Representative and Head of Sponsorship, I have gained valuable experience in connecting with members and building strong partnerships. I am eager to build on our society’s success and create even more opportunities for all of you.

Key Goals:

  • Expand Career Development & Industry Engagement:
Building on my work with partner sponsors, I will diversify our industry connections to secure more internships, career talks, and networking opportunities across various sectors. This will help UCLES members explore career options and build meaningful professional connections early in their journey.
  • Foster Collaboration Across UCL & Beyond:
I will strengthen relationships with UCL societies and universities, creating interdisciplinary events and collaborative projects. By expanding UCLES’s network beyond engineering, we’ll offer opportunities for members to interact with students from diverse backgrounds, build new skills, and develop a well-rounded professional network.
  • Enhance Engagement, Socials, & Mentorship:
I will organise regular socials, networking events, and enhance our mentorship program to provide both academic and industry support, ensuring members grow personally and professionally.

With my experience and dedication to UCLES, I’m excited to lead the society forward. Vote for me, and together we’ll build a UCLES that fosters growth, connection, and success for all! xx
