Hi, UCLES! I’m Catharina, a Biomedical Engineering student, and I’d be honoured to be your next President
As UCLES First-Year Representative this year, I gained invaluable insight into leading a society of this scale. This experience not only deepened my appreciation for the effort behind each initiative but also helped me develop the essential knowledge and skills to steer the society forward.
As president I hope to bring you the following:
- I will provide the crucial industry exposure that we, as engineers, need in today’s competitive landscape. Organising more unique sponsorship events to ensure you gain a network that serves your future career plans
- If you're as much of a nerd as I am, I’d love to launch a newsletter or podcast featuring UCL research straight from the experts!
- To better serve our large UCLES community, Carla (running for Vice President) and I plan to introduce a Family Scheme. Members can be grouped into families to enhance engagement in both social and academic-related events. It will provide a support system, offering mentorship and guidance such that every member feels part of something bigger
- I will bring back the much-loved Engineering Boat Party alongside the Engineering Ball and our flagship London 2050 conference. Beyond these major events, you can look forward to regular socials and collaborations with other societies to overcome the academic stress we all know
I’ve loved being part of UCLES this year and would be honoured to continue shaping its growth.

Hi everyone, I’m Joonhyuk, and I’d be honored to serve as your UCLES President next year.
As Head of Projects, my experiences working closely with events, sponsorship, and marketing teams helped me gain invaluable insight into how our society functions. This year, I organized the Startup Careers Fair and industry visits, creating opportunities for students to connect with professionals and gain real-world experience. These experiences have strengthened my leadership and event management skills, equipping me with the organization and communication needed to lead UCLES effectively.
As President, I will strive to:
- Strengthen industry connections by organizing events with current and prospective sponsors, giving students the chance to network, explore career paths, and develop skills that stand out to employers.
- Ensuring student well-being by securing regular socials and welfare events. From trivia nights and pub socials to major gatherings like the Engineering Ball and Boat party, these events will offer a space to relax and unwind from academic pressures
- Building collaborations with external societies and university departments to expand our reach and create high-quality, well-attended events that benefit a diverse range of students.
Being part of UCLES has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I’ve seen firsthand how strong leadership can shape the society’s success. I’d love the opportunity to continue making a positive impact and representing this amazing community.
