Armiya Sultan

As an intimidated first year international student, drama society was one community space where I felt I could truly contribute and have my voice heard, and that was partially due to members' well-being being well looked after, so taking up this role would be a delightful way of giving back to the society. I think especially in a place like a drama club where certain roles or demands could be particularly heavy for people to grapple with, the presence of a welfare officer is extremely helpful in mitigating situations and encouraging students. I have personally experienced discrimination and dealt with mental health issues while being at university but have thankfully been successful in overcoming those scenarios, hence it would mean the world to me to be able to foster and ensure such services for other students too. My experiences in a variety of collaborative work ranging from directing plays to working on film sets to different kinds of volunteer work, have made me confident in my ability to hear out and help others or direct them to the best service for their situation to ensure the smooth functioning of a group, so I am more than ready to practice the same as an ardent member of the society too, hopefully being able to repay a small part of what it has given me and what it has done for my involvement and interest in university activities as a whole.

Kimia Firoozabadi

Hi everyone! My name is Kimia and I’m a 5th year medical student. I’ve loved being part of the drama society, and I want to ensure everyone feels as supported and valued as I’ve felt. As Welfare Officer, I’ll focus on creating a positive, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. I’ll be there to listen, offer support, and help organise mental health and wellbeing initiatives. I’m passionate about looking out for others and ensuring we all have a safe space to express ourselves. Whether it’s organising socials, supporting members, or improving the overall atmosphere, I’ll bring my energy and commitment to make the society a place where everyone feels comfortable and cared for.
