As a first-year ISPS student majoring in International Relations, I discovered the Diplomacy Society at the beginning of the year and have since attended many of its insightful events featuring remarkable speakers. Engaging with these discussions has deepened my interest in international affairs, and I would love to contribute actively to the society that has already provided me with so many amazing opportunities.

I am applying for the role of Marketing Officer because I want to continue the great work that has been done —ensuring that more students hear about the society’s events, feel motivated to attend, and ultimately become part of this dynamic society. With experience in event organisation and marketing, I have successfully helped plan and promote events with over 600 attendees, developing skills in outreach, engagement, and communications strategy.

Through this role, I aim to expand the society’s reach and make sure that the Diplomacy Society remains one of the most engaging and well-attended diplomacy society at UCL.

Vanessa Burmeister

Hi everyone, I’m Vanessa, and I’d love to be your marketing officer for the upcoming year.

Diplomacy shapes the world, and I want to help make it more accessible, engaging, and exciting for students. As Marketing Officer, my goal is to expand our reach and boost engagement with all the incredible opportunities our society offers.

If elected, I will:

  • Increase visibility - Enhance social media campaigns, promote the Diplomacy review, and create interactive content to keep members informed and involved.
  • Highlight our events - Promote speaker panels, embassy visits and other experiences through highlight reels and member spotlights.
  • Strengthen engagement - Introduce Q&A sessions, behind-the-scenes event previews, and collaborations with other societies to reach a wider audience.
  • Streamline announcements - Ensure event details are clear and easy to access so no one misses out on exciting opportunities.

With extensive experience in leadership and event promotion, I’m ready to bring creative, impactful marketing strategies to our society. With your vote, we’ll build a more enriching and connected community!

Joe Yiu Ip

Hi, I study Politics and International Relations and would love to work in the marketing role for the Diplomacy society, I have a passion for design and social media and am a writer for the Diplomacy Review, the flagship media of our society. It is great to meet everybody who participates!

I have previously worked for my school's student newspaper working as a founder and the creative director where I managed the design and characterisation of the paper. I believe this will give me the experience to help design the various aspects of posts for our social media and ensure it is well managed. I'm a great social person and I know many people in the society and related courses so this position will allow me to reach out to others and help show what the Diplomacy society has to offer!

I've developed skills across graphic design and art including the use of Adobe software such as Photoshop as well as Canva giving me cross applicable skills for the role and to ensure the continuity of design practice across our marketing platforms. Highly coordinated I will ensure that the society is given a common theme across the platforms it represents itself on.
