As the Czech and Slovak Society is a cultural society, my main focus as president would be to share aspects of it with the diverse student body of UCL, but mainly to provide a safe space for Czechs and Slovaks, who have moved to London recently. I found this especially valuable at the beginning of my first year. Being shown around campus by familiar faces and having someone to ask for help if needed. I especially found the power of this society, when I needed someone who I was closer due to our shared background and language, to not feel overwhelmed in the big and scary city that London is. I would like to achieve this by continuing the collaboration of our society with our sister societies at other London universities, to extend our circle and benefit even more from our shared culture and experiences.
I am running for President of the Czech and Slovak Society, since I am deeply passionate about preserving our strong, united, and welcoming community for Czech and Slovak students at UCL. I truly believe that our culture, traditions, and experiences are something that deserves to be shared and celebrated, and I am eager to make sure that our society continues to serve as a second home to all its members.
I have personally experienced the importance of our society in helping us settle into life in London, whether through cultural events, networking opportunities, or social gatherings. As president, I would focus on strengthening our presence within the university, enhancing collaborations with other student groups, as well as organising events that will celebrate our culture and boost our personal growth.
My main goal is to make this society not just a place where all Czechs and Slovaks can connect and enhance their journey at university, but also a welcoming and safe place for everyone who is interested in our culture. I am committed to leading with dedication, energy, and a clear vision for an even stronger and more engaging society.
