Dear Members of the Bhangra Society,

I am excited to stand as a candidate for the position of Treasurer, bringing my passion for Bhangra and my experience managing finances to serve our society. As someone who has previously held the role of Treasurer for the Sikh Society, I have gained valuable experience in budgeting, fundraising, and allocating funds effectively to support events and activities that bring our community together. I understand the financial needs of our society, whether it's organizing a Bhangra competition or hosting our annual Rangeela show.

Here’s why I believe I am the right candidate for this role:

  1. Experience with Event Funding: Having served as the Treasurer for Sikh Soc, I’ve overseen the financial aspects of large-scale events. I am familiar with the costs associated with Bhangra competitions, performances, workshops, and shows like Rangeela, ensuring that funds are managed efficiently to make these events a success.
  2. Understanding the Passion for Bhangra: As a passionate member of the Bhangra community, I understand the importance of promoting and celebrating this art form. I will work tirelessly to ensure we have the resources to showcase the vibrant culture of Bhangra through workshops, performances, and collaborations.
  3. Commitment to Transparency: I believe in clear, transparent communication with all members. You’ll always know where the funds are being
Arjan Dhaliwal

Hi,

I'm Arjan and ever since I began at UCL, I've only ever enjoyed Bhangra. Having spent countless sessions with my friends in preparation for Rangeela has caused me to grow ever closer to the Bhangra team and is a perfect example of my dedication towards this society. The time I've spent within Bhangra has given me valuable insight on specific things that this society's money is used on (which less involved members may not be aware of) as well as (like the majority of university students) the need for socials to be more affordable for example. This, in addition to having connections to many of the likely future society leaders, means that an efficient society will be well maintained.

Being a part of the Model UN club at my old college, I have the experience of managing a society's funds and using money wisely to ensure it lasts throughout the year whilst also making sure we receive sponsorships to continue the running of the club and I believe this experience means the role of Treasurer is led well. I fully understand the importance of:

  • Subsidising socials
  • Receiving sufficient money from sponsors
  • Keeping track of what Bhangra money is being utilised for (with excel)
  • Assisting in the weekly running of lessons

and believe a good Treasurer will do this. I have confidence I am the one of the best suited for this role and as the Bhangra Society Treasurer and hope to make everyone's time within the UCL Bhangra committee even better than mine (if thats possible)!
