As Black students, we often lack the same level of guidance and connections as our peers that can help us break into certain professions. I want to be Career & Sponsorship Officer to help bridge that gap and provide greater access for black students to high-achieving careers. I have previous experience running a society in Sixth Form, where I liaised with external stakeholders, organized events, and facilitated discussions. On top of this, I have taken an active role in investing in my career through attending numerous insight schemes and conferences within the finance industry.
The Careers Department within the ACS has been great this year, but I noticed a lot of the events were directed towards areas such as finance or law. Broadening career opportunities, particularly for STEM students and those in less traditional fields would be something I would aim to improve. Moreover, I would seek to increase support for first years to ensure they are taking full advantage of early career opportunities when they start university. This would look like making sure they are aware of things like Spring weeks, 10000 Black Interns and Rare Recruitment etc.
Overall, my strong work ethic, creativity, and passion make me an ideal fit for this role, and I am committed to making a significant impact as Careers and Sponsorship Officer. Vote for me!
